Mine did that and you need to reformat it. Access your ilo in "my computer", go to file, and reformat it. It will fix the problem.

Creative is the one forcing Wal-Mart into a 15 day only exchange policy. The supposed reason is that they have people coming back to exchange when the one year warranty is just about up, not because the player is broke, but so they can upgrade to the latest model since theirs won't be in stock anymore. Wal-Mart help desk doesn't have the time to verify whether the player is broke or not.
So that forces you down the Creative RMA path. But if it is more than 60 days after your purchase, it's probably not worth it because when you do finally get an RMA, you have to send $25 non-refundable handling fee with your player to get it fixed. It's clearly not worth it for the low end players.

You must write/phone the company to get that address - it has to have a company-provided rma #, or your return will not be processed.

This is the worst mp3 player ever invented - i have to tell you this up front. There is no driver, the company does not support the product anymore - I would return it now while you still can.
Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
SOURCE: will not turn on
Make sure that the hold/lock switch isn't engaged, and make sure it has been plugged into the computer for 3-4 hours to fully charge.
If it still won't work, run a Repair in the Philips Device Manager.
