everytime i try to use my cd/dvd rom drive it wont read the disks....i put in a blank disk and it reads that its there but wont let me use it. it has a red circle with a line through the icon. i have no clue how to fix it...any ideas would be greatly appreciated

thanx for answering back...the dvd drive isntg a rom....the name of it is Mashita DVD-Ram UJ-845S ATA Device....when i go into the security tab in properties it says i dont have permission to view the security properties. and it says unable to display current owner. it wont let me change ownership to admin. any ideas??

yep....im the only user on this computer. ive turned off UAC and made sure that i am the administator on this computer, but it still denys me access
ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.

Ok, I only specified that based on what you provided. The uj 845 i am highly familiar with as its the drive i have been installing in macintoshes for the last year. What is your computer and OS?
