Craftsman 24Hp Lawn tractor engine dying out

Hello, Your help is appreciated. I have a 2007 Craftsman 24hp lawn tractor that I used last year for the first time. When I put it away for the winter, I winterized it but now it doesen't want to run any more than a couple of minutes once it gets warm. It'll continue to start but once again only for a couple of minutes. I installed a new fuel filter, plugs O.K. Can you help?

Will it stay running if you partially choke it when it starts to die out? When you say "it runs for a couple of minutes", is it really a couple of minutes or more like several seconds?

1. check the oil level... don't want the auto shut off to be the problem due to low oil level
2. pull the carb bowl and check for residue. Spray out the needle valve in the carb, spray out the bowl and any jet openings you can find...spray them out too.
3.When you winterized, did you put fuel stabilizer in the tank? If not, drain the tank and refill with fresh...
4. check the air filter element and make sure it is clean...

let me know how it goes...

How do you change the blade on a craftsman lawn tractor model 917.28726? I have the tractor on ramps, but can't seem to get the bolt off!

Disconnect the spark plug wire from the engine to prevent accidental starting. Use a wrench or socket to remove the bolt, turn in a counter clock wise rotation for removal. You'll need to hold the blade still while attempting to remove the bolt. Use a breaker bar for more leverage if needed, sometimes these bolts are difficult.

I have a 17.5 hp craftsman 42" lawn tractor. I can't keep the battey charged for more than two uses. I need information on how to trouble shoot te system. I also need t find the alternator

My 24HP 42" had the same problem. If your model is like mine, there are two black wires with a yellow connector coming down the side of the engine. Unplug those wires, and with engine running, and a multimeter leads attached to them measure for 15 volts AC. If bad it is alternator, which is located under fly wheel. If good reconnect yellow wires, and test the single red wire with multimeter red test lead connected and black test lead to any engine ground point. Measure for 15 volts DC. My problem was that square regulator that did not convert 15 VAC to 15 VDC. If your tractor is less than two years old, the warranty will cover labor and repair. Also if your tractor's wiring has different color wires, the test procedure may be different.

I have been losing forward speed over the last 2 weeks, When I press the forward pedal the mower goes very slowly. My engine is working fine.

The automatic transaxle is driven off a belt that runs from the engine to the top of the transaxle, make sure this belt is not slipping and also ensure the neutral rod in the rear of the tractor is pushed all the way in.

Try changing the its oil-seals. The problem lies there. It may be damaged or the oil-seals are now smaller than its is used to and it is because of the heat. The oil-seal are rounded things that are made of rubber.

Craftsman lawn tractor won't start after only one summer's use.

Is it fresh gas? Gas deteriorates over time. If it is from last year your carborator is probably clogged with residue and needs to be rebuilt or replaced (if cheaper).
