Question about iRiver PMC-120 Digital Media Player

Iriver PMC120 when connected to Vista computer by USB takes ages to do anything

This is reeeeeeely annoying. i just got an iriver PMC. i plugged it into my VISTA computer for the first time and chose the sync set-up and all that, synced songs and a few vids. but then when i went to put it back in the next day, i plugged it in and wmp11 and my computer froze. the iriver showed up in device manager and in my computer and wmp11 but after i tried to do anything with them in my computer or wmp11 it just froze and takes ages to do anything. i think the problem may be that information is being transferred between the pmc and computer by the usb cord very, very slowly because it still manages to show up in wmp11 and my computer. it shows up in wmp11 and i can go into songs but it takes ages and ages (i.e half an hour....) to show up.

Also, when i first plug it in the circley thing that spins around when it says updating spins for a few seconds then stops when it shows up on the computer... i took the battery out and the screw there thinking it was a problem inside but i couldnt manage to get it open... does anyone know how to get the thing open?

ive read that i should format for problems sort of like this... sort of like this being the key phrase in that sentence.

any help at all woujld be dearly appreciated!! thanks

I encountered the same problem that u were having after about 7 months of use of my iriver pmc. When i connected my iriver to the usb cord it showed up on my computer, therefore my computer detected it but when i wanted to open my MEDIA file it took awile and my iriver froze while trying to update. The only solution that i came up with was this: 1. You have to go to control panel. 2. Go to system icon. 3: After you click the system icon the system properties page should show up. 4: Next click on Hardware and then device manager. 5: Then u have to click on the Windows portable devices which should be on the bottom, then double-click on "iriver portable media center". 6: Now you will have to click on driver and UPDATE the driver. Unfortunately this will format your iriver but it will fix the problem. Just copy and paste all your songs back on your iriver.

Iriver X20 database full

does the message stop you from using the iriver?
if it doesn't then there's a format function on the iriver in the settings menu...
if it does then there may be a problem with the usb connection...
either the iriver isnt responding or the computer can't read it!
for the user below there is most likely a format will fix it...

Pulling music file from pmc120 to computer

look at it via explorer in windows, (my computer, K drive or whatever the iriver comes up as) there will be some folders in it and the music should be in there.

Need a driver for the pmc 120 for XP.....

You need to use windows media converter (under the windows media folder) and convert all videos to WMV format and you have to use 320X240 output resolution, 800kbps sound quality. Anything else will result in a format out of specification error. Now where to move those video files is a mystery as there is no video folder. You can move all pictures into the pic library, etc. Windows Media Player 10 is designed to natively pick this device up and make synchronizing easy. when I plugged my Ebay PMC-120 in, Windows media player tried to sync all media files to my device, pictures, music, windows sound effects, etc. Should not be an big deal if you have the correct USB cable, mine came with one. has the software, but you have to go into the update software area of the site and there is a link to the master program in a set of upgrade instructions, no other place that I looked. Not Vista compatible unless you download the installation program and set its compatability to winXP BEFORE you run it. And stick with WMP 10 as it was around when this device was made.

My iriver pmc won't switch off

make sure the hold button on the bottom is showing white, not red (locked) if that doesn't work, just pop the battery off and put it back in.
