Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

My thermostat quit working

Honeywell TH8110U - 4 or 5 years old, worked fine until today.  i noticed it was displaying the wrong indoor temp for awhile this morning.  now it displays no temp at all and nothing works.  will not heat or cool.  when i select one of the functions on the display it just turns itself off.  clock works.  correct day displayed.  i can turn the fan on, but that's it.  is the thermostat fried or something?

well, it's a hard-wired thermostat, although it has batteries for back-up. i figured the batteries were okay, because each time i've pulled the faceplate off, the clock keeps working.  also, there's been no low battery warning.  thanks for taking the time to reply to my problem.

thank you for your reply.  i changed out the batteries tonight, just to be sure, but it made no difference.  i bought a new honeywell thermostat at home depot today and i think i'll try installing it tomorrow.  thanks again...i'll let you know what happens.

I work alot with the Honeywell thermostats and in the past couple of years I have seen the Vision Pro thermostats have some fail issues. There is a 5 year warranty on these thermostats so you should'nt have to pay for a new one if it's under 5 years old.

No response , Yes, I would address the thermostat. I've changed mine 4 times in 30 years, with the best each time. My new stat just had to be replaced after only 7 months in service.. good luck and if you need, I'll watch for you. Here to help.

Electronics take very little power so change out the batteries just to make sure. - There may be enough for the display but not to drive the thermostat. That would explain the display changes.

SOURCE: round honeywell thermostat

Sounds like you have a T86 thermostat...take the round front cover off to view the Mercury switch. Watch the bulb when you change the temperature to a higher setpoint. If the bulb makes contact when rotating it up, and the furnace doesn't go into a call for heat, then it could be the thermostat, wiring, or furnace problem.

When this thermostat is in the HOLD position, which cancels the programmed feature, I set the temperature to 72 degrees and the furnace runs until that 72 degree temperature is obtained. Now the thermostat...

If you still have the instructions for the thermostat, then it will show you how to get into the menu and set the swing on the temps. I would try to explain off the top of my head, but its actually quite a bit off numbers to remember. Hope it helps somehow.

Have you checked to make sure the batteries are, in fact, good and that they are facing the right way? If so, it's time for a new thermostat.

Honeywell digital thermostat stopped working

Sounds to me like you have a low voltage short. If the stat had no display until you installed the battery means there was no voltage for the stat to work. Putting the battery in proves the stat works, no motors turning on probably leads to a blown low voltage fuse generally a blade fuse on circuit board in indoor unit. Good Luck
