Can't change master administrator name

My computer previously belonged to someone else. I figured out how to add myself as administrator so that my name shows up when I save a file but whenever I sign on computer or go under my pictures it reflects the prior owners name. Any ideas on how to get rid of this???

Some of it are in the registry, in xp you can change that also under administrative tools. In vista they don't put that maybe for security reasons.

I may not be able to give you the link in registry for some technical reason, someone maybe will gonna shout foul.

But making your own User account with administrator priviledged and deleting the old user's account should be enough. You maybe can't changed the user accounts in other installed software.

But if you are not still satisfied you may opt to do restoring the unit to its factory setting or reinstalling it. This I think is the best way and simplest of doing that. You may just back up the driver, installation serial, important files, and also some of its settings. And securing the installation discs.

You are asking a whole lot here.
From what I understand, you are running Windows XP. The previous owner has not removed his name from the system.
You want your name to show up as a user.
You want the previous owner's info gone.

Do this:
Go to the control panel and to the Users icon. Create a new user (you) as an admin.
Now log off of Windows and log back on as you. Go back to the control panel and the users icon.
Click on the previous owner's name and choose "delete account." Do not save the data. Just choose delete.
This will delete the user and all his data.
This should do it for now.

How do i change the computers administrators settings and how do i get there

  1. Locate the My Computer icon on your desktop.

  2. Right click the icon and then click on Manage on the menu that should appear next to the cursor. This will bring up the Computer Management window.

  3. Locate the Local Users and Groups heading and click the plus symbol to the left of it.
  4. if everything has been done correctly, your window should look something like this. Click on Groups on the menu that opens. You will now see headings for Administrators, Guests, Power Users, etc.
  5. 5Double click on Administrators. This brings up a list of all the administrators on your machine. If you have administrative access to this computer, you should be able to change the settings in this menu.
  6. 6To add a new administrator, click the Add button. This will open a new window. Type in the name of the account you wish to add and click Check Names. The name should now be underlined. Click OK to close this window and save your settings.
  7. 7To remove an administrator, highlight the account you wish to remove from the group and click the Remove button at the bottom of the window.
  8. 8If you wish to retain your own administrative rights, make sure not to delete your account from this list.
  9. 9If the settings for your account haven't been changed, there is no need to reboot. Otherwise, logout and login again so that the settings will change.

How to make a computer screen name?

In windows this is done in the control panel under users, then add new user and assign a password . Also, this needs to be done by the Administrator or someone with Administrator computer rights. The default user typically has these rights. A limited computer account will not have this ability.

Anti spy on yahoo says i need administrative rights to work?

If you are using XP or later and you have established user accounts on your computer, or someone who actually controls your computer has created user accounts, there is a good possibility you do not belong to the "Administrative User group". If this is your computer, you will need to log in as an administrative user with the proper password, if you assigned one. If the computer is actually controlled by another person, you will have to get that other person (mom, dad, sister, brother, son, daughter, boss, neighbor, dude down the street, other person) to change you from "limited" to "administrative" user.

It is not my intention to be negative when I make reference to the person who controls your computer. If you cannot get in as administrator, evidently you forgot the process or someone else doesn't want you to be installing programs on the (their) computer.

These changes can be made by going to the control panel and opening USER ACCOUNTS (in XP). If you do have administrative rights, you can make the changes, if you don't, well then, Windows will not allow it.

I hope this information helps you

I was given a compaq computer running Windows XP. It boots up to a previous user and is looking for that user's password. How can I reset password or access administrator account?

I would suggest you to try the following :

Boot the computer in safe mode.
Press F8 while booting the system, It will give you Windows Advance boot option, Select Safe mode and press Enter. You will see two accounts, Administrator and the Previous User's . Select the Administrator. If it allows you to log in, go to control Panel, User Accounts and delete the previous user's account and create a New user with your name. Reboot the computer in normal mode.

Hope this works. Please let me know if you need further Assistance. Your comments and ratings are highly appreciated.

IF YOU WERE ON AS AN ADMINISTRATOR TOO, THEN YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR PW OR ADD SOMEONE ELSE TOO. BUT IF YOU WERE NOT THE ORIGNAL ADMINISTRATOR THEN YOU HAVE TO HAVE THAT PERSON DO IT AND ADD YOU ON. GOOD LUCK!

It sounds like it used to belong to someone else. Go to Control panel and set yourself up a new account but make sure the account is set as administrator. Use your new account to add new programs and stuff. Problem solved.

Problem

It is a simple matter to add an administrator account to your computer provided you are already logged in as an administrator. If you are logged in as an account created as "limited",as many guest accounts are, you do not have the authority to create an administrator account.Provided you are already an administrator and only want to add a new account follow these steps. From the start button, go to control panel, then user accounts. Click on add account, create a name, click on administrator and just follow the prompts.

System won't go past profile page..stuck

It seems that the Guest account profile is corrupted because of which you are unable to log in as like in previously.

In the Profile Login page, hold the Ctrl and Alt keys and press the Del key twice.

This will give you a window where you need to enter the User name and Password.

Enter the User name as administrator and leave the password column blank if you have not set any Password to the administrator account or enter the Administrator password if you have set any.

Now once you are loged into the Administrator account, create a new User from the Control Panel > User Accounts.

Set the required limitatios to the account like limited account or administrator account and log off from the administrator account.

Now, you should have the newly created user account available in the login page. Select it and you should be able to login.
