GE 28112 cordless phone

The phone works great except we have a message flashing about a new voicemail. Checked our voicemail acount with vonage and currently donot have any voicemails. How do I get the phone to stop flashing about a new voicemail or how do I listen to the voicemail? same problem and looks like for over 2 years nobody has yet to solve it. The cost to send it to their "techincians" and "ship" is more than the phone is worth now - especially since this gem of a problem eats the battery up
