*&^%&^ Belt won't stay on

I'm so frustrated i could scream. i spent about 2 hours today just trying to vaccuum 2 bedrooms. the belt on my vac came off 5 times and i had to stop each time, let it cool down (the silver part inside that teh belt rests on gets hot with use) and then unscrew the screws and put the belt back around the little silver part, close it up, attempt to vac again, only to have the belt slip off after about 2 minutes of vaccuming. ARGH!!!!!

i really like this vac (have had it 2.5 years and it still sucks stuff up like a pro). do i need to bring it someplace to get it fixed? and if so, can someone point me to a website where there are repair locations posted?

Re: *&^%&^ Belt won't stay on

Bissell have there own repair center , make sure the carpet roller brush is free from carpet debris,
Is the brush roller turning free on its bearings,
Is the belt stretched
Is the brush guard damaged
If these are all ok it should work

Hi Ecomama,

Check your Brush, it may not be rolling freely.  I had to clean string and hair and fiber out from ar0und the ends to get the brush to roll  freely.  This will cause the belt to get hot and come off.  just clean out the Brush ends.

My oreck vacuum cleaner belt does not stay on. After puting it on, and it seems like it will stay, it comes right off after a minute of vaccuuming

Some of those belts require a twist to provide the correct motion on the brush and stay on.
To determine the existing motion, install the belt and carefully stand the Vacuum on the handle and observe the rotation of the brush while running. The brush rotation direction should be into it's self so when it's on the floor it acts like it's trying to pull the vacuum forward.
If the brush is throwing dust forward and feels like it's pushing away its incorrectly mounted. Look at the operator manual and it should have a section on belt installation.
Best wishes,

The rotating brush is not moving.

is the dyson brush belt-driven like most other vaccuums? broken brush belts usually cause that. they are easily replaced at most dept stoes or vac stores.

Just about any vac shop should have the belt. This belt is the same belt used in the upright vacs as well as the power nozzels. The new oem part number is 48359.

Kirby Vaccuum Cleaner:

likely a broken belt. turn vac over and see if roller turns free. if it does the belt is broken. turn the handle on front of vac. turn latch under headlight and remove head. open bottom plate and return handle to normal position. belt and brush roll will lift out. reverse procedure to install. directions are usually printed on the head of vac under headlight.

Eureka Altima is smoking!

Eureka Altima is smoking!

Help! My vacuum is smoking. It won’t work anymore and starts to smoke as soon as it gets turned on.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

Eureka Altima Upright Vacuum Model #2996AVS – it is probably doing 2 things, it could be the belt and or brushroll and the easiest ay to check is to remove the belt and see if the motor smokes, if the motor is fine then buy a new belt and check the brushroll to see if the brushroll spins freely, there are bearings in the brushroll and thread and hair get bound up in the ends and needs to be cleaned out. So #1, check the belt – no smoke from the motor then check the brushroll to see if it spins freely then changed the belt. If the motor smokes check your purchase date it may still be under the one year factory warranty from the dop. #2. Either clean or replace the brushroll and belt. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact your local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
