Question about Zodiac Pacer Pool Cleaner

Zodiac Pacer pool cleaner not sucking water or moving

Just installed new Zodiac Pacer, in ground pool, skimmer connection.
Can't get suction. Problem is in the blue cleaner unit itself. Water sucking fine all the way down to the cleaner unit, but no water being sucked up into the unit itself. The problem appears to be the diaphragm. There is no obstruction, but the diaphragm narrows to a small **** at the top end (nearest to the hose section, not the end nearest to the bottom of the unit).

Remove diaphragm and check for rips or tears in plastic.

Hose Collapses at skimmer

There are a few reasons the hose will collapse. One thing is for sure you will need to replace any sections that have collapsed because they will continue to collapse now that the integrity of the hose has been breached.

  • The suction is too strong.
  • There is something stuck in the head of the cleaner. acorn bottle cap etc...
  • The hose is just old and needs to be replaced.
Here is a good resource for pool cleaner trouble shooting.

How to adjust suction in a pacer

There is a special adaptor that is put between the cleaner and the suction port. It allows you to adjust it so there will be max suction (only sucking thru the unit) and less suction by opening a window to allow suction from outside the unit/at the exterior of the adaptor which less suction will be thru the pacer.

You need to adjust the suction down on the cleaner. This type of cleaner only needs about 10lbs of vacuum pressure

When I turn on the pool, the pacer works for about 5 minutes then just gets stuck on the wall. If I turn off the pool and reset, it starts again then stops. How can I decrease the suction or adjust the...

You need to use the Pool Pulse feature to control the flow of water through the cleaner. Here is a brief overview, but if you need more details, consult page 6 of the users manual for this pool cleaner (below if you don't have it).
"Remove the cleaner head. Attach the Pool Pulse to the end of the hose and keep it under water. Turn on the filtration system.
• For pools with one skimmer, flow is automatically regulated by the Flowkeeper Valve. Insure the blue indicator of the Pool Pulse is in the ideal range (when viewed from the side).
• For pools with two or more skimmers, leave the selected skimmer open and slowly close the other skimmer(s) until the blue indicator of the Pool Pulse moves into the ideal range (when viewed from the side).
• For pools with a wall vacuum fitting, leave the wall vacuum fitting fully open and slowly close the skimmer valve until the blue indicator of the Pool Pulse moves into the ideal range (when viewed from the side).

Keeping the hose under water, remove the Pool Pulse. Submerge the cleaner head, and when the bubbles stop coming from the extension pipe, attach the hose end. Your installation is now complete."

Barracuda Pacer comes right up the side and above waterline then sucks so much air, pump has to be reprimed. Really annoying

You just need to slow the cleaner down and dirvert some suction away from it. It should never really come anymore than 1/3 the way up the wall.

My Barracuda was working the other day before the

If your moving water it sounds like you have a suction valve that needs to be reset to the cleaner. If your main drain is plugged off as it should be with a suction cleaner, the pump will strain. Or it may be a plugged line. Check this by putting a small kitchen sponge it the skimmer and see if it gets pulled through to the pump basket. If it does not get there you have a plug.

It probally is to much suction. You should have a dirveter valve where it hooks to the wall or the skimmer. This should have come with the unit and your manuel should describe it and it's function for you. if you don't have one your local pool store can help you out as these are generic in most case's.
