Question about Zenith A32B43W 32" TV

1 Answer

Watching TV and then POP!

We were watching TV just a half hour ago and a big white, vertical light came onto the screen and then a pop. A whining sound proceeded and then clicking occurred. Thin white smoke appeared from the top of the TV and an acrid electrical smell filled the house. The TV did not respond to the power off on the remote. If the TV is plugged in again, the whine and clicking occur. I have had the TV for 8 years.

Is it time for a new one or repair?

Also, does home owner's insurance cover incidences like this?

Thank you,

Re: Watching TV and then POP!

Ok, your tv is still on repairable condition, smoke that came out from your unit due to an ic that burned,I'm sure it's the vertical ic replaced with a new one.same part number.

White line in center..sound iis fine

Most common are soldering problems on the vertical deflection IC's.
If this line is quite bright: shut down the set, it might damage the picture tube permanently. Resolder all pcb connections under the vertical defl. part. With a magnifier you can see "craters" around the footprints. Where is the vert. deflection. ? Mostly an integrated circuit
on a vetically mounted heatsink . Typnumber: mostly something TDA53xx like. Gently knocking with a screwdriver and observing the screen might lead you to it's location if you're not familiar with TV's.
Watch out: lethal voltages !

I have white lines at the top half of screen

If a regular set this is a vertical circuit problem---either a filter cap (called feedback cap) or the vertical output chip.

Tv 27" has only half screen picture horizional I

Possible failure of the VERTICAL SECTION of the deflection circuit. It is possible that the areas related to the vertical circuit is checked , check for weak capacitors near the output vertical drive. Also a faulty vertical coil- deflection coil- can result in half picture.
A vertical signal test can confirm.

My tv is called a mirai or something. About an 1 hour ago tonight, i was watching britain's got talent while i was putting things away then when i turned my back to look at my tv all of a sudden my tv went...

If you have sound, than a bad ground may have occured on the horizontal transformer or the vertical IC. These will have to be resoldered. In the event the vertical IC is resoldered you should have the capacitors immediately near this IC checked and replaced as necessary! I would imagine you are speaking about the older picture tube type TV. This info is for most tube type TVs. Hope this will help! Thanks for asking!

Screen black no sound or picture with line in center

this is a common problem, the vertical hold has been damaged.dont leave the teli. on,the white line will burn the middle of the screen and leave a black mark. You need a new integrated circuit(i.c.) for vertical hold.

This is usually caused by the tuner which loses the chrominance part of the NTSC signal. Your did not say how you have it connected but it you try using a composite video input (yellow jack) and get the color OK than it must be the tuner which is not cheap but is worth having replaced.
Hope Ya Fix it!

You probably have a component breaking down on one of the circuit boards. It would have to be checked out to find out which one. Stargazer
