Question about Peavey Pv 2600 Power Amplifier

1 Answer

Peavey PR15-D Powered speakers, Power on but no sound.

Power LEDs come on, no sound. The other one works fine so I ruled out the cables and dj system. Took it apart, nothing obvious on the circuit boards. I'm at a loss.

At gigs, my backing music cuts in and out or the voices become distorted. I plug both the right and left cables direct into the 2 jacks at the back of the mixer. Using new cable leads.

Check for impedance ( resistance) in ohms on the speakers disconnected from the circuit using a volt/ohm meter. I think the woofers are 8 ohms and the tweeters are 8 ohms. Also check for bad solder joints where the jacks are soldered to the circuit boards.

All sound equipment has to operate without overloads in any given place. The power source should always be examined at commercial gigs and worked out with other performers along with management. The only fix is to do these checks up front and make safe arrangements.

Uncover it... you will probably find that some of the LED's are not lighting. OFTEN soldering on circuit boards OR a bad LED in a string kills several like Christmas strings. More than this you need to be somewaht adept at electronics to repair it.

I have OFTEN found that a cable has come loose. Open the unit and look for such a situation. Also make sure the motion (probably a disc) is working/rotating since with high power LED devices, they have interlocks for safety to keep beams moving.

If by chance teh light is on the end of a long DMX cable run, read about putting a terminating resistor at the end of the chain. You say you are having "trouble"... that doesn't tell us anything that we could help you with.

Hi I have a pair of Mackie SRM450s. When applying power I get a high pitch squeal whether I have speaker leads connected or not. After flicking the low cut or contour buttons on and off it then goes away....

Make sure you have ALL interconnected parts of the system powered from the SAME receptacle or power conditioning module. This MAY require you running an extension cord back from where your speakers plug in to supply power to the mixer. The ground bounce in power wiring in building can cause feedback or even destroying the sensitive input circuits of your system. As an electrical engineer I see these problems frequently. I think they should include this information with sound equipment user manuals, but they don't and people have trouble and damage their equipment. Doing this MAY also fix the problem you are having.

Check for a dry/cracked solder joint where the 1/4 inch phono input jack connects to the printed circuit board. Solid state Marshalls are renowned for this.

Since it works with your other mixer, the DJM400 is probably fine. You have a ground loop.

Make sure ALL, and I do mean ALL... (re-read that if there is any confusion) interconnected equipment WILL BE powered from the same receptacle or source. If speakers or amps are powered from one place and the DJM is from the other end of the room you likely have a ground loop and you can ex[ect buzzing. Run extension cords alongside the audio leads if necessaryy to carry power from where the amps or speakers are plugged in back to the DJM400 and ANY pther connected equipment.
