The Lamp (CRT) got shorted / leaky that gets spark / arcing and requires replacement. TV is an old model and I'm not sure that CRT is available any more.

If the sparks fly from the area of where the fat red wire attaches, it could just be that the insulator has broken down allowing the high voltage to arc to the nearest part. It may be possible to replace the insulator, it's just a piece of molded silicone rubber, and there's one in every CRT type TV and computer monitor. Be careful though, as you can see, there's high voltage at that point. Allow it to dissipate for at least 30 minutes before tackling the project, and even then there's enough left to cause a big surprise. Use a wire lead and thin screwdriver to discharge remaining charge(slide screwdriver under the rubber) to the metal brackets that hold the tubes to be safe. Be sure your wire is secure on the bracker and screwdriver!

I heard a pop and screen wet black. red lamp

Lamp inside TV is broken and requires replacement. Pop sound was its breaking sound.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual, pretty easy.
Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp.
Let me know if you need to download user manual copy.
Thanks.

Sony grand wega kf-50we610 red lamp light blinking

The red light means that the prjection bulb needs to be replaced. They ony last about two years depending on hours of use. The low popping sounds as well as fan noise is normal for the Sony projection TV. You can Google the owners manual by entering the brand, model etc. and ask for the owner's manual. I had to go to several sites but eventually found it.

Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60XS955 60 in. Rear Projection popped and turned off

the reason your lamp blew so quickly is the the lamp fan has become cloged with dust. this is a known problem by sony and I have done 15 or so of the up grades needed. first look at the lamp door is it discolored and warped. if so have a tech order the up grade kit which includes a new door, siraco fan, thermal fuse, and lamp. the return fan may also be needed. also some service menu changes need to be made with the fan voltages of fan 1 and fan2.
