Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDP-65WS550 65" Rear Projection HDTV
When turning on my Sony big screen tv one morning, I immediately noticed that the picture was very distorted. I can see blue shadows or ghosts to the left of images on the screen. Using the manual, I tried to adjust the convergence. Prior to adjusting I noticed that there was a blue shadow to the left of all the white "+" signs on the screen. In the center of the screen the shadow was just barely to the left of the "+" sign. Moving away from the center to the right and the left sides of the screen, the blue shadows move farther and farther to the left of the "+" sign. Is this something that should be fixable by adjusting the convergence? I have some soldering experience - is this something that can be fixed by a novice, or would I be better off trying to buy the part (or board) in a local tv parts store? By the way, I tried using the flash focus to adjust the picture colors but it didn't work? My problem is similar except that on mine only the red color seems to be pulled down on the corners only. the center of the picture is as sharp as ever. anyone have any advice?
You do have a failure in the convergence circuit of your set. If you are good at soldering you can replace the IC's yourself. They are on the large circuit board on the left side of the set looking from the back, and attached to a large aluminum heat sink. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I reccomend removing the board and sending it to PTS corp in Indiana. They are pretty reasonable repairing boards, and a lot less than buying a new one.

hi. this will be an easy fix for you if you are a good solder. you will need to replace the convergence chip that is located on the PC board(main). this chip is damaged and it has failed due to this damage that has occurred. click below for your new convergence chip(stk).
