Question about Apple Laptop Floppy Drive (661-1651) Internal Floppy Drive

1 Answer

Floppy drive spins then gets stuck

We have an AMS Soundpro - SPP 40483 - laptop - got it at a yard sale - something to goof and learn on - it constantly boots to MS Dos - can we get into the bios and change the boot sequence - also the floppy spins then seems to get stuck and can't continue to spin - any thoughts would be greatly appreciated - the laptop does not appear to be user friendly as far as dismantling it

This sound like fun. To get to the bios the common practice is to hold down the [Delete] key as soon as you turn it on. If it constantly boots to doss, that is likely the operating system. To explore what else is there, at the dos prompt, type in "dir" and press [Enter]. You should get a list of folders and files. If the dos prompt is A:> then you may have only a floppy drive. To check for a hard drive, type "C:" at the dos prompt. If it says not available, then you have only floppy. If the dos prompt changes to 'C:>" the you have a hard drive.

As far as dismantleing it is concerned, remove any screws in the bottom. Press you finger against any labes on the bottom and feel aroud for hidden screws. The plastic case also snaps together. Tying to unsnap it usually snaps pieces off. That is as far as i can help you right now. Need nore, ask away but supply enough info so I can image it in MY mind.

Can you reset a Stentura 8000? It's stuck "Recovering Files"

If you were indeed talking about the Stentura 8000, and not the computer, and if your writer boots up ok but gets stuck at "recovering files" **when you try to start writing**, try verifying that the floppy is good (e.g. looking at it via a computer)- it may just be that the floppy got fried in the power surge. You can try using a fresh floppy (check in Windows/etc to make sure, first). There are many floppy-recovery programs out there on the web, and that'll at least get your Stentura sane again. Just dealt with this a few minutes ago, and that's all it turned out to be...but after 3 months, you've probably long since found your own solution.

Intermittent floppy disk drive for Husqvarna Viking Designer 1

These 3.5-inch floppy disk drives are never produced by the manufacturer of the device, but by one of a few floppy disk drive manufacturers (usually Sony) and as such, should your disk drive start to fail, you may be able to disassemble the case of the Viking Designer 1, remove the floppy drive, and insert another standard floppy salvaged from a tower-type PC, thus fixing the problem.
Since 3.5-in. floppy drives are becoming more and more scarce in modern computers (in favor of CD-RW drives) you may have a obsolete tower computer (remember Windows 98?) in your basement (or your friend's basement/yard sale/flea market/www.Craigslist.org/www.eBay.com) that could supply a useable FDD (floppy disk drive).

External drive shuts down the Toshiba 460CDX/2.1. OS is 2000. I do not have Admin rights to add Hardware, the Admin is no longer available. The CD writes does not write to a CD only plays CD's. I need to...

The external cd drive should be having both CD and DVD options, that is Combo Drive or Super CD Drive where you can write all your data on to the DVD - eitherway it can be done. You can copy the data from DVD / CD on to your toshiba laptop.

Best solution is replace the exisitng laptop to a latet one with Vista option. Will solve your probllm. Otherise try to contact the local authrozed hardware engineer to assist you in solving this problem.

Good Luck.
