CE Code On 6 year old Calypso

After replacing Pump and Motor In Sept. 2007 my washer ran fine for a month. Last weeek it threw a CE ( Communication Error ) code. This was my third pump, (factory plus 2 replacement pumps).I had extra motor & machine control boards that were sent to me by A&E Factory Service during my 2 month Calypso nightmare of Dec 2004-Feb-2005. So I replaced the boards one at a time and actually got  the thing to start working again but it pooped out part way through the cycle and threw the same CE Code. When you try to start it it throws this CE  code back at you after only 1-2 seconds.Any thoughts? Possible Drive motor faulty? This was replaced in Feb. of 2005 also.  Thanks

I did check the connections between the 2 boards & they appear to be OK. Fuse seems good. I'm suspecting drive motor since pump and pump motor were replaced a month ago. Thanks I'll keep checking.

I fixed it alright! I took out the boards, Pump and motor which happens to be returnable to Sears parts. I felt like from a doctor harvesting organs from a dead person. It's ironic that the dead Calypso is out on the curb hoping for a junk man to scrap it and be reincarnated as a new macine except no one has come by to take it. Even the scrap man knows that Calypso is not even worthy of the recycling stream. Probably don't want to contaminate the metal pile.!!!!! P.S. We bought a Whilpool Duet 9200 and so far it works nice. No more balled up laundry and the clothes are drier and fresher. The duet uses MUCH less water also. Farewell Calypso, oh how you fooled us. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on you. Fool me three or four times I must have been in love and denial. Send those machines off to their final resting place.

Well I had a George Bush moment while typing my satirical farewell to Captain Calypso. If you've seen the documentary Farenheight 911 the part where old Georgie stumbles on the old " Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me line. I had a little typo when I envoked that line in my eulogy to Captain Calypso.  Anyone want  to see if we can get the engineering degrees revoked of the idiots who designed this machine?

I am in a state of total shock. I bought these machines exactly 6 yrs ago from Sears (washer & dryer). I do a search and the first hit is for this problem on a six yr old washer. Ugh ! I just replaced the dryer two months ago. What happened to washers and dryers lasting 10 or 12 yrs. For Pete's sake, my mother's always lasted at least that long and she was doing laundry for 8 kids ! I could just cry............................

My 5 year old calypso is giving me the ce message now.  It starts for a few minutes, then stops with the ce message.  I'd like to check some basic connections before I call a repairman.  The manual says to check the conformal coating on the serial communication pins, the resistance valves, and the quick disconnect.  I have the manual, but am still confused.  Can I check these connections myself?  Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have this washing machine and it has never gone a year without serious breakdowns. Have had all sorts of parts replaced and it still breaks down! The worst part is that we have a Sears repair warranty and it takes an average of two weeks to get a repair appt only to be told that repair workers no longer carry any parts in their van so parts will have to be ordered...and of course they will not set an appt to install the parts until they have the parts so we again wait another two weeks for that appt. and 80% of the time (I am NOT exaggerating) the machine still isn't working and we have to go therough the entire dance again!! Once my machine breaks I always figure I will be without a machine for at least a month...one year during the Christmas season (and umpteen guests) we were without our machine for 3 months going through this repair process!!!

What can cause this code OB and LS codes is a partially clogged water pump or final drain pipe. The last hose coming from the machine to your house drain can slow down the water draining from your machine, causing CE LS OB codes. Take off the final long black hose and look in the end of the hose where it attaches to your machine. You have to tilt the machine back against the wall and remove the black cover at the bottom of the machine. Then using pliers, loosen the spring clamp. A black rubber limiter is in the end of the hose to catch lint, plastic, etc. Use a coat hanger and hook the rubber limiter and pull it out. Clean it and replace it.

I just replaced my 3rd pump on my Calypso. I seem to lose pumps when I do bathroom mats. The mats lose fiber and it clogs the impeller. I have successfully cleared clogs in the past by removing the pump and cleaning the impeller. However, the repair shop where I buy parts said the Calypso is notorious for sucking small silky items into the drain system. When you buy new pumps they enclose a mesh bag to put these types of things into for washing. So it could be pump failure or a piece of clothing traped in the system. They should have designed a larger impeller that would allow potential clogs to pass through the system.

Check the fuse on the motor control board and see if it is blown. If so, You could just have a bad board, but it may be a drive motor or pump motor. The most common thing is for the pump seal to leak into the pump motor and cause a short.

The CE code means the 2 boards can not communicate with each other so be sure to check the wiring connectors between them. Post back with what you find out.

Be sure to check the connection at the motor to make sure it isn't loose or have any burned terminals. You may want to check the continuity between the motor and controller on all the wires to make sure you dont have a break somewhere.

CE Communications ErrorIf there is any breakdown in communication between the machine controller and the motor controller, CE flashes and the unit beeps once.

Some common causes of CE errors include:

· Conformal coating on serial communications pins between the machine controller and motor controller. After disconnecting power to the unit, try scraping this coating off the pins.

· Check the resistance values between the serial communications pins with the connectors in place. Make sure the harness does not have a bad connection.

· Check the quick disconnect at the motor terminal. The drive motor must be hooked up properly or a CE error will occur.

· Drive motor thermal protector has opened.

·Motor controller is not powered or fuse has opened. Replace motor controller.

My whirpol calypso washer don't running, appear fl and ce

"FL" flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lock condition in order for "FL" to be displayed.

With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

CE is a communication error between the control board on the control panel, and the motor control board. in most cases this is covered under the warranty from whirlpool but in some cases it is not. in any event the motor control board must be replaced.

Code CE

CE stands for Communication error. The Calypso has 2 circuit boards inside that touchpad area. One is the motor control board and the other is the machine control board. They are not "talking" to each other for some reason. The boards are warranted for 5 years on most machines. This machine is the subject of a class action lawsuit. Just Google Whirlpool Calypso sit back and start reading.
