Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

Water coming out of the ice maker and spreading thru out

Have a Kenmore Elite top-mount refrigerator with an ice maker in the freezer. Water is coming out of the ice machine when it fills. I have already placed the proper the water tube extension pipe onto it in January and turned the temp up from 5 to 3.5 for both compartments. It was at set at 5 because of thawing of items. With the water coming out the drain pipe now freezes, water in the freezer base freezes and what ever gets into the fridge compartment 1/2 of it freezes. I am looking for next step and not buying new one as answer having enough problems here and not money wise. Inside there is a production date of 02-01, serial no el0620855 and model #10670202991. The unit is in a corner but it is an open corner and the top is clear, only the back and the right side are next to the wall with 3" clearance.
PS have posted this but to the community and never saw it go up about 3hrs ago now its your turn. Hope it gets to you.

Question is where is this screen. I have a large filter on the water line between the copper pipe and the fridge. I know items do get through and the water is lovely here in Pittsburgh. Don't know if you can see the comment before yours. We do have cats in the house need to see if that has any affect but I have kept it vacuumed out under it since this has started. Where can I get a copy of the location of these screens to check them.

Showing me a screen that is at the bottom of the refrigerator. The ice machine is at the top.

We do have pets in the house and there is a Kenmore Flow Cartridge (PN42 38447)that does get changed placed on the water line for the ice machine from the water line that it is attached to.

OK if that is all that is required then why did one say to get that tube water tube extension and how come it freezes going down the drain pipe. The person back in January that told me to get this extension said that water got out from the spray of the water. But this makes more sense from the amount of water that is getting out. Question still stands though why the freezing in the drain pipe down the back of the fridge.

After replying the first time to you I went to the unit and took the cover off. By the way its the fan unit for the ice maker and looked for this screw. Where is it and which direction is to the negative. Being an architect I know sometimes it is clockwise and not counter clock not to sound like a smarta-- sorry.

Item #19 there is a diagram but nothing stating what each number is for. I did look at it yesterday (Sunday) and didn't see a + or - that is why I am asking. Just want to make sure I alter the correct item.

Thanks for the help. I just have to get a chance to look at everything now and get the ice out of the drain pipe to the pan underside of the refridgerator.

Since you seem to have located the problem wit help from our experts and narrowed it down to the connection details, the general thumb rule for color coding is ---------that Blue is ground, Red is live(-ve) and Black/white/green are for neutral(+ve). Also check the solenoid of the water filling assembly and replace the solenoid which controls the flow of water into the ice maker. Also ckeck if any warning LED is lighted up. The problem might just be on the sensor which senses the amount of water level in the icemaker which having malfunctioned is responsoble for water overflow in the icemaker otherwise there would be no excess water which is not supposed to be present if the sensor is working properly!

This is is my intutive deduction as a Mechanical Eng. and consider this as an suggestion/pointer/advice(personal) regarding your problem since so many experts have already given their advice/solution .............................................................sodeep

If the problem is just the water is overflowing when the ice maker fill,Just remove the front cover on the ice maker and turn the ice size screw towards the negative symbol (-) this will adjust the fill level.
Once the water fill level is correct the ice in the bottom will stop being produced.

Hi there,

First check the unit valve. The valve is equipped with a screen on its inlet to remove minerals and sediments in the water supply. Over time, minerals and sediment build up on the screen and restrict flow through the valve, or even block it completely. Minerals that make it through the screen can cause the valve to stick in the open position, overfilling the ice cube tray in the process. This is a common problem in areas with hard water, but it can happen just about anywhere.

Funny fridge noise, kenmore elite trio

I have a Kenmore Elite Trio and the freezer was making a frog sound. I found the solution.

My model number is 596.75523400. The sound will stop when the freezer is opened. It will stop again when the freezer drawer is open and the light switch is pressed to turn off the light. The ice drawer was full but it had stopped making ice.

Here is the fix in less than 10 minutes using only a screwdriver.
  • Take out the two freezer baskets
  • Remove the freezer door from the two slide tracks.
  • Unplug the icemaker electric connection at the back wall. Depress the clips on the side of the plug and wiggle it loose.
  • There are 3 screws that attach the icemaker to the left freezer wall. Remove the lower screw and unscrew the top two about ½ way out.
  • Slide the icemaker up so the slots slip over the 2 screws.
  • Put the icemaker in the sink and run a bit of water on the frozen cubes until they fall out.
  • Take the screwdriver and check the water inlet hose/pipe for ice that obstructs the flow of water into the ice maker.
  • Re-mount using the 3 screws and plug in the electric connector. Make certain the water inlet tube is positioned thru the retaining hole before you remount the screws.
  • Replace freezer door and baskets.
