Question about Acer Aspire 3680 PC Notebook

1 Answer

0xd000001e and subsequent black screen

After what appeared to be virus issues, I tried installing new CDs just purchased from Acer for the Aspire 3680. The restore failed with reason 0xd000001e. I get a black screen immediately after the Acer splash screen. I tried Alt-F10 as mentioned in your articles, but that does nothing. I'm no longer sure if I'm dealing with a virus, wrong CDs from the manufacturer, or hardware failures. I'm desperate for suggestions!

I don't see that.  It's a PhoenixBIOS v. 1.3502, with only Info, Main, Security, Boot and Exit menus.  Boot menu lists 2 IDE drives, the WDC HD and CDROM, but they are the only references I see for IDE...none for AHCI...?

Acer Worldwide Support This issue has to do with errors in Acer's recovery software. If you need to use their recovery disc, you need to contact Acer in your region. If you don't, use an OEM or Retail version of Windows and do a "clean install".

yes, you need to install a special, Aspire One version of XP. This is a driver issue generally. You must either use the install DVD from Acer or get a specially made version with all necessary drivers built in. Format the Drive and reinstall windows. from that media.

Recovery cds buying

Dont you have a provision to create your own recovery CDs? If you have then create your own. If recovery CDs are available for your model, they will have all the drivers that were there initially and not of items you installed subsequently.

0xd000001e and subsequent black screen

The easiest way is to hit F10 right after the Acer splash screen. This will take you into recovery mode on the laptop. Then just do the Reset to Factory Default. This will put everything back to the way it was when you purchase the laptop. It does this from the recovery partition.
