Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

For about a week or two, my primary computer has been unable to connect to the internet through my Linksys router and Motorola cable modem. There have been no problems for the past year. I need to reboot the modem almost every time I want to connect online. But, even that doesn't help my primary desktop computer. Secondary are two laptops - only one of which is online at the same time as the primary. I think that I have a problem with either (1) the modem; (2) my drivers; or (3) my antivirus software. I added #3 because it seems to have happened to all these computers right after an update. Any help would be wildly appreciated.

    Hi,

My computer had LAN drivers installed, so I couldn't uninstall without losing the service. But, I connect completely wirelessly. UPDATE: Two computers had the antivirus uninstalled, and a new service installed. Windows Defender was activated. So far, all three computers are now working fine. That doesn't explain why the third one is now working, but so far, so good.

    Thank you for the help.

this could be a firewall blocking the request to connect to the internet. your anti virus may have set to block the socket in which your internet was using.

Hope this initial info / idea helps.

    Thank you for using fixya

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Linksys router will not connect with motorola 2210 modem

Your problem may be timing.

Make sure you have all your cables connected correctly.

Do not have power to either the modem or router.

Plug in you modem and watch the lights go to work. Wait for them to settle down. Now plug in your router, again watching the lights. It should work now.

You can download Linksys' LELA program to monitor the network. Shows green lines to your computers, etc. when working and red lines when not. It will also give your status and make suggestions if you loose your connection.

Good Luck

How to connect Wireless router to Cabel Modem and Vonage Modem?

First of all: it would be good to know which devices you are using. This would help to be more specific.

But anyways:
  1. Connect a normal Ethernet cable from your DSL or Cable modem to the Internet (or WAN) port of your vonage router.
  2. Then connect another Ethernet cable from one of theLAN ports of the vonage device to the Internet (or WAN) port of your Linksys (The one that is separated from the 4 LAN ports.)
  3. Make sure that the Linksys is set to DHCP (Dynamic IP Address), soit can get it's IP address from the vonage router! (Look at your manual. If you don't have one, you can get it here. Choose the right version number - you can find that on a sticker at the bottom of the router - and download the user guide)
  4. Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the Linksys.
If you have any more questions or this desciption is not clear to you, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Motorola SB5100 and linksys router connection

The only thing that you need to setup on your Linksys for it to work with cable is to make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router.  You will need to plug your router into the modem via the ethernet cable and then plug your neighbors pc into a link port on the router (the cable modem plugs into the internet port)  You will also need to follow the reboot procedure.  Power everything off.
1: Turn on the surfboard and wait about 1 minute for the surfboard to make a connection with your ISP (the link light should come on).
2:Turn on your router and wait for your router to sync up with the surfboard . 3: Turn on your computer. Whenever you plug anything into a cable modem, you must recycle power to the modem.  It "remembers" the last device that was plugged into it, so it's memory needs to be cleared.

Since you did not include your exact model number and type of internet provider I cannot give you more specific instructions. Although you can refer to the links below on how to set it up. If you require further assistance just reply to this and give me the model number of your ISP and the model of your router. Also answer this question " When you plug your computer to your modem do you get online automatically or do you need a username and password"

MY LINKSYS WRT54G WONT READ MY COMPUTERS INTERNET CONNECTION

Ok to start the yellow ethernet port should be connected straight to the Linksys router in the ethernet in port. Then you connect the cmputer to one of the other the 4 ports on the back of the wireless router. wala you shouldn't have any more trouble after that.
