The start button goes directly to the motor to energize the start winding until the centrifugal switch in the motor energizes the run winding.

If the motor is not trying to start, I would next test the start switch & related connections.

    Start switch:

If you have a multimeter you can see if you get 120 volts at the end of the start switch (at the motor) when pushed -- this will confirm the start switch is good. Or, you can remove the start switch and test it for continuity when depressed.

Motor: (If you're going to be working with the motor, remove

    the belt first.)

If start switch is good, you can disconnect it from the motor and jump 120 volts to the motor terminals -- if the start switch is getting 120 volts to the motor (in the above test), this is a redundant test, but it wold confirm the motor needs work.

Okay, please let me know what you find.

    thanks...

    Charlie

P.S. Remember the door has to be closed when you are testing for voltage at the motor.

Start button does not kick the dryer on

Looks like your drive motor is locked up. It has an internal overload switch which cuts power off when motor gets too hot...Replacement of the motor on a used dryer is probably not the best choice as it can be quite pricey..

Whirlpool 110 electric dryer will not keep running

When you press the start button you complete a circuit bringing the juice into your dryer to run the motor the igniter or heating elements and what ever else goes whee when your dryer is drying. So if you press the button to complete the circuit then when you let go of the button it would stand to reason that it break that flow and shut it all down. However in a dryer there is something of a centrifugal switch that kicks in and keeps that circuit open and flowing with juice once the drum begins to turn and you let go of the button. That's why in a normal situation if you don't hold the button down long enough the dryer will cut right back off or if you open the door to the dryer to throw something in and close it before it quits turning it will stay running. Sounds like you could add this centrifugal switch to the list of possible culprits in this mystery. O7OUT

Check the wire leads the motor and make sure they are not burned. I had a dryer do the same thing and the motor lead had burned off the connection lug.

Dryer just sits and hums

if you push the start and it just humms it is a bad dryer motor to weak to kick on,to confirm this have sombody hold the dryer door button in and turn the drum when you push the start button,if it jump starts you know it's a bad motor-mike

If I push and hold pressure on start button Kenmore will run ?

Check your door switch as well, but you may want to start by replaceing the start button. You should hear a small click when the button is pushed down.

That should be just a push to start switch. The start switch is inside the motor. When the motor turns fast enough it trips an internal switch to keep the motor running. It sounds like you have a motor on the way out.

Dryer won't stay on.

lots of questions spring to mind, but if you have a push button type, it will only continue to turn once the motor is in motion. centripetal action allows a motor switch to keep the dryer in operation. look in that area.if you have a belt tentioner. check for continuity.
