Lens/focus err My fuji camera has had this problem for 2 months now- My lens is stuck open, and all the way out, and when I turn on the camera it says focus err. When I turn it off, the camera makes some noise, but the lens does not retract, I have tried taking the battery out and all that. Help

Lens extends but won't retract. I can hear the drive motor run and try to retract it...but it will not retract. Suspect gear drive is stripped...or whatever allows it to retract.

Camera was working fine....did this all the sudden and can't use it since.

    very dissapointing!

I had the problem with my lens not retracting. I took out the battery for a moment and when I put it back in the lens would retract and everything worked fine again.

I had the exact same problem in September 2007 (must be built in obsolence). I sent mine to Fuji's repair center to get repaired. Unfortunately, it becomes a decision of whether to get it repaired or buy a new one (repair cost ~$160). The kicker is now the flash will not work. I get a message/warning of camera shake. The manual says it's something to do with the shutter speed but no mention on how to correct it. So it becomes another decision of do I throw more money at it (send back for repair) or bite the bullet and buy a new camera.

Good luck!

Lens will not extend when turned on message on screen lens error

Hi,

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust or may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun around lens barrel. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on this will solve the problem.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks and have a nice day

Focus error? The camera won't focus. Focus Error is displayed in the viewing screen. Zoom action & everything else seems to work fine. Won't focus, won't take pictures.

This is a known issue with Fuji S3000 cameras caused by dust and dirt that get in through the loosely mounted lens mechanism, there are only three solutions.

  1. If under warranty you can send the camera in for repair.
  2. Saturate around the lens with WD40 and wiggle the lens until it becomes responsive again every month or so.
  3. Dismantle the camera and clean out around the internal gear-box and lens components about once a year.

Fine-Pix A400 is showing Focus Error and will not allow photos to be taken. In addition, the lens will not retract when the camera is shut off. This problem occurred after using the zoom procedure several...

Here is a quick fix to try. If you attempted to remove the focus error doing the 3 times on and off, and it didnb't help to this. Power the camera on, you will hear the gear skipping as if it is slipping. Right at the moment you turn of the camera push the lens in manually slightly and gently. This will reposition the timing of the lens to focus. This usually fixes the Focus error when the lens is stuck in the out position and never retracts. I have had this happen twice, and it cleared both times by doing this. Good Luck

My fuji finpix s1 will not pull up the menu, nor can I take any pictures however the automatic focus works, the function lcd lights up but it will not work either.

rdp19 did not mention the ERR msg.
I had the same problem, however after messing with it the ERR message is up.
If RDP19 gets this, did you get it fixed.  Where and what cost?

Does not open or adjust zoom

First, the camera should still be under warranty, and Fuji should repair this for you for free. Consider the following IF AND ONLY IF Fuji does not help you:
