Why is it when I put usb in to watch movie does it come up unsupported file

The digital TV you have does not support the file format of the movie: MP4, avi, mkv, whatever it is.
The USB port probably only supports jpg format and mp3.

How to rip Blu-ray DVD on Mac for Free

Now that Blu-ray players are becoming more common in the living room, so are the Blu-ray DVD movies we watch on them. To rip a Blu-ray disc on Mac, you need an External Blu-ray Writer to enable your Mac read Blu-ray disc, and then downloaded the free MakeMKV beta to extract video and audio files from Blu-ray DVD to your hard drive, preserving the full quality of your Blu-ray DVD movies.

Rip Blu-ray DVD movies to MKV on the Mac

Connect external Blu-ray writer to your Mac and launch MakeMKV, and the software immediately found my USB-connected drive, and let me read the Blu-ray disc inside.

It then will present you with a list of titles, each with a file size next to it. The first title was the main movie—easy to tell because it listed the number of chapters and also displayed the largest file size of the group.

Clicking the disclosure triangle next to that title shows the various audio and subtitle tracks contained in the movie, and let you deselect those you don’t want. Then click the Make MKV button and a MKV file will be on your hard drive when the conversion is done.

Play ripped Blu-ray movies on Mac

MakeMKV basically strips the copy protection from movies and then copies them into an MKV container. The result is a perfect copy of the movie, at its original frame size and data rate, which I was able to play on my Mac Pro using the free VLC media player.

Convert ripped Blu-ray movies to MOV, MP4, AVI, FLV, WMV and more

If you want to edit Blu-ray movies on Mac, share it with your friends, or upload your Blu-ray movies to iPod, iPhone, and more, you can use Mac Video Converter to convert your Blu-ray movies to any format of your choice. This easy to use Mac Video Converter converts ripped Blu-ray DVD movies quickly, and it provides a wide range of useful presets for iMovie, iDVD, iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP and many popular mobile phones.

If you want to directly rip Blu-Ray to various video formats for playback on your Apple TV, Xbox, or mobile digital media devices. Please Use Blu Ray Ripper.

HOW DO I USE THE USB PORT TO PLAY MOVIES

Tom,

To be able to play movies stored on a USB device (it doesn´t matter if it's a usb pen, a usb hard drive, etc), you will need two things:

1.- The device where you want to play the movies must support the USB device that you're using (not all USBs are the same, and they can be formatted differently, too). So if when you plug it in, the TV doesn´t recognize it, use a different USB device.

2.- The movies that you put on the USB device must be palyable by your device. ie: your TV, BluRay, etc must be able to decode and play the movie format, and this can be AVI, DIVX, XVID, H624, QT, MKV, etc. Even if your device reproduces DIVX movies, if the movie is encoded in a weird format, it won't be playable. The fastest way to know is trial and error.

I have the philips 120hz and some movies are smooth, others jump

I would advise knocking down the resolution. Try and use software, like red kawa, to convert a few of your movies to different formats till you find a decent one. A widely accepted codec setup is Divx/XVid (both are the same) and MP3 sound.

The following formats can be played on Windows media player:

avi
mov
mp4
mpg
mpeg

Normally DVD players cannot read compressed formats, if you have a regular DVD/MP3 player, that wont read any of the formats above, or with some luck will read only uncoded Avi, mov or mpeg.

The formats above are all compressed formats, and often they need additional software call codecs, they can be read on computers, but they generally are not working on dvd players.

To be sure that a DVD will read compressed computer movies, you need a special DVD player with Divx , like the one below:

Pro Digital Mall
