BIOS update has killed my Netbook!

Download & Extract AS1_BIOS_3309.zip Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd. Copy zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive. Start the restoration process: A. Plug the AC Adapter into the unit. B. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port. C. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together. D. Keep these keys held down and press power. E. When the unit's power light comes on release the Fn and Esc keys. F. After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink. G. Let the unit run and after approximately 1-7 minutes, the unit should reboot. H. Video should now be restored. I did the above procedure and now my acer aspire one is dead! Has no power, power light is dead, no souund, no screen (even blank) - it's fried I think! How can I get my netbook back to normal or do I throw it away? Hony

Hello,
BIOS updates should only be done by certified technicians, if you put the wrong version on your system, lets say even 1 earlier version, there is potential that your computer may never start again.
I would contact Acer, is your machine still under warranty?

Acer aspire turns on but nothing on the screen

Hi;

This happened to me twice ( got two net books).

You need to follow up these steps:
Updating the BIOS will require a USB flash drive to store the BIOS information on during the update. To perform the update to the BIOS:
1.Go herehttp://support.acer.com/us/en/default.aspx and download the latest BIOS for the netbook.
2.Extract the files from the downloaded zipped BIOS file.
3.In the Dos_Flash folder, rename the BIOS file from 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.FD, in all capital letters.
4.Copy ZG5IA32.FD and Flashit.exe to the USB flash drive
5.Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in.
6.Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
7.Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together and press the power button.
8.When the unit's power light comes on wait a few seconds and release the Fn and Esc keys.
9.After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
10.During the BIOS update process the display will be blank.
11.Let the unit run and after approximately 1 to 7 minutes, the unit should reboot and the BIOS will be updated.
If the unit fails to reboot, or the BIOS was not updated sucessfully, try the steps again. If the unit continues to fail to reboot, the unit may need service.
Good Luck

It is not charging

I recently had an Acer Aspire One that (after fully discharging) would no longer hold a charge. It worked fine when plugged in, but would turn off right after discharging. This is due to a BIOS error, and this article will show you how to update the BIOS to the official Acer revision 3309.

This article is meant for the AOA110 and AOA150 models ONLY, ingluding the ZG series of AOA110 and AOA150 netbooks.

1. On a separate computer, click here: http://gd.panam.acer.com/

2. Click Netbook -> Acer Aspire One -> AOA150 -> and then below, choose the "BIOS" tab.

3. Click the orange "Down" arrow to download the BIOS.

4. Open the .zip file and extract the two files: "3310.fd" and "Flashit.exe" onto your thumb drive. Rename "3310.fd" to "zg5ia32.fd"

5.Insert the thumb drive into your powered off Netbook.

6.Press and hold down the "Fn" and "Esc" keys and turn on the Netbook while still holding these keys for about 30 seconds, then let go.

7. Your Netbook should stay black for anywhere from 2-4 minutes or so. Once it restarts, safely remove your thumb drive, and charge it for a while. It should successfully hold a charge from now on.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.
