You have to use the "FILM AREA GUIDE" included with the scanner. This black plastic guide leaves a small area at the top of the glass open so that the scanner can calibrate itself at the start of each scan. Use the guide or leave at least 8mm between the top of your film and the top of the scanner glass.

there is a small strip of glass to the left of your exposure glass ( the big glass) there might be some dirt on that piece of glass. You might not even see it most of the time, but it's there. Loosen the 2 screws and take of the scale on the left, the small strip of glass should be attached to it. Use a cloth and some window cleaner or even dishwashing liquid and clean that glass.

How do I scan more than one page at a time

Hi there,
To scan more than one page at a time you can use ADF.
The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) can scan multiple pages, including duplex pages. When using the ADF:
* Load the document into the ADF faceup, short edge first.
* Load up to 50 sheets of plain paper into the ADF input tray.
*Scan sizes from 148 x 210 mm (5.8 x 8.3 in.) to 215.9 to 355.6mm (8.5 x 14 in.).
* Scan documents with mixed page sizes (letter and legal).
*Scan media weights from 52 to 120 g/m2 (14 to 32 lb ).
* Do not load post cards, photos, small items, transparency, photo paper or the thin media (such as magazine clippings) into the ADF. Place these items on the scanner glass.

Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks
Have a good day.

Just changed all cartridgages and photo quality is still bad

Image
scanning
Spots on a scanned
image
- Glossy photo (original)
- In the high humidity
environment
When a glossy photo is
strongly pressed on the
platen glass, the photo
will stick to the glass,
and the stuck points are
scanned as spots.
- Do not strongly press
the photo on the platen
glass.
- Clean the platen glass
(to eliminate any
moisture).
- Spots appear on
the scanned
image, though
there is no such
spots on the
original
document.

HP OfficeJet J5780 Vertical Black Line Prints when copying or scaning only. Cleaned rollers and changed black ink cartrigde. Still problem.

Have you tried cleaning the document feeders Scan Glass? (small glass under doc feeder ~ 1" by 9") Most times there is dirt spot on this glass, causing a shadow on scans and copies.
Try copying from the large glass by lifting doc feeder / platen cover and manually placing original. If no line copying or scanning manually from large glass, then small scan glass is deffenitely the culprit. Hope this helps.

White spots on scanned photos

There's probably nothing you can do for dust under the glass, but in the Advanced settings for your scanner, there is an option to turn on "Reduce Dust & Scratches", with three different 'strengths'. You may want to try this to see if it helps.

Dirty scans

Small white dots would indicate progressive failure of the CCD[sensor] or perhaps ingress of dirt to the inside of the glass. hard to say exactly with out seeing the machine.
