hi,
please check whether the hard drive is loaded properly into the computer.Turn on the compupter try to go to the bios of the computer and there do the harddrive long test.if the test is failed then the harddrive has gone bad.if the test is passed then try to install the operating system with a recovery cd's.if you don't have the recovery cd's then you need to call HP to get the recovery cd's.

Both my desktop and laptop computers do not recognize my Signature mini external hard drive. I've replaced the cable. No difference. The ports work fine because they work with my printer. I have...

External hard drives of this type are mainly composed of a USB-to-SATA interface & a 2.5" SATA hard drive. If any of these components is defective, then you won't be able to access your data.
So, basically we have 2 possibilities:
1. A failing USB-to-SATA interface. You can test this possibility by disassembling the device, taking the hard drive out, & testing the hard drive in your desktop computer using a 2.5" to 3.5" SATA adapter. If the hard drive works fine, then the problem lies within the USB-to-SATA interface.
3. In the previous step, if the hard drive could not be detected by your desktop computer or is not working properly, then it is the failing part.

THE COMPUTER WAS RESTARTED AND NOW IT WILL ONLY LOAD INTO THE STARTUP REPAIR MENU AND THEN INTO THE ADVANCE RECOVERY OPTIONS. I DONT HAVE A BACKUP SAVED. WHAT CAN I DO

You could have a corrupt os or a bad hard drive. In both cases it is still possible to get data off the drive just a matter of how much effort or money you are willing to through at it. The easiest way to recover the data is to purchase a external harddrive holder

Remove the harddrive from the laptop located on the bottom of the computer usually held in with two screws. install the harddrive into the hard drive enclosure and connect it to a working computer to see if your files are still present. transfer them imediately to the working computer if they are there. After the transfer insert the hardrive back into the laptop and test the hard drive with dft.( a bootable cd to test harddrives) IF the drive passes the test then use the recovery to restore the computer. here is a link to the drive fitness test.

If you didn't see your files while connected to the coputer using the encloser then you can still send it off to cali for data recovery services but it will cost atleast $500 Datalifeguards is one I know of.

Why is it when i go to start my computer it doesnt wanna load windows, it says disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter. My computer was working fine right before. can someone please tell me...

Hi, the computer is not detecting the hard drive or the hard drive is corrupt. At startup you are likely to hear a knocking sound if the hard drive is physically damaged. You can go to bios setup at startup ( could be F1 or Esc). Once there it should indicate if there is a harddrive or not. If it indicates none there the harddrive might have crashed and will need repalcing. I hope this helps.

Samsung 1tb external will not allow my computer to boot

Try checking your bios to see what harddrive the computer boots from.
Your PC might be trying to boot from that samsung story which I assume doesn't have an OS installed.

Freecom harddrive beeping

Had the same problem. Just checked with their tech support: regular beeping can mean that there is not enough power going through the unit. I tried another USB port on the back of the computer (ie one connected directly to MB) and it worked fine.

Black screen and blinking underscore before loading OS

chipset drivers that are loaded onto the harddrive are not the same as the ones in the "new" computer you put it into.

The only way to do that is format the drive and start from vanilla.

This is very common. -Jeff

Red dot and beep

The problem is in most cases the Power Supply given is of too low of Wattage, at 1.5. After some time, it will no longer provide the drive the needed power, thus the red light.

Try another similar power supply of higher Watts (my Maxtor has it at 2.0 watts.

Try getting Higher power Supply from Radio Shack. Store Tech will Help you.

Lastly, inside the enclosure is simply a typical Hard Drive. Remove it and Slave it to your PC.
