Formatting the memory card automatically erases all the files in the memory card.
it's like restoring the memory card to factory settings to be compatible with your camera.

when you format the memory card using the camera the camera erases everything then creates folders that the camera needs to store pictures in your memory card.

you can try to look for software that can TRY to retrieve the images but i cannot assure you that this will work

When you format a memory card it does two things.

    1) It erases all its information

    2) It now puts in folders needed for use on a certain device

It is like rebooting your memory card in a way to be compatible with your unit by creating ROOT folders that your device needs

    hope this answer your question

Hii

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

SOURCE: Format button deleted my memory card???

Format will wipe clean your memory-card like new - Always.
    so normally avoid that button.

if you lost some photos using the format then there maybe some chance to get them back.

take out the card and put it in external card reader.

Now get hold of some file recovery software like 'GetDataBack for FAT32' (buy/borrow/steal :) ) install it on your computer, GetDataBack should be able to pull back the data.

Let me know if any more clarifications needed.

How do you erase all of the stored pics on the sd card at once?

Use the Format command to quickly delete all images from the memory card. This will also prevent fragmenting of the memory - which can significantly slow the transfer of images to your computer - and increase the amount of time it takes to save a picture after pressing the shutter button.

To format a card on in your camera, at the main menu choose "Settings" then select "Format".

    I hope this helped!

How do I erase all of the photos on the memory stick?

The best way to erase all photos on the memory card is to format it. This should be done every time you finish downloading your pictures to your computer, to prevent the card from getting fragmented.

To format a card on the L100, from the main menu select Settings (the gear and wrench icon). From there select Format.

    Memory card error?

Hi, Check if other memory card is working on your camera. This is one way of checking if your memory card if still working or there is an issue wither the camera. Formatting Memory card **you should always format a new memory card or one from which you wish to erase all images and other data. ** Please note that formatting a memory card erases all data, including protected images and other file types. 1. (Set up) Menu [Format]
    2. Select [OK] and press FUNC SET button.
Low Level format, recommended by cannon
Select the [Low Level Format] when you think that the recording/reading speed of a memory card has dropped. A low level format may require 2 to 3 minutes with some memory cards.

    Formatting memory stick.

You can use the MEMORY FORMAT functions to completely delete all images and options on the Memory Card, including protected images. * The format function restores the Memory Card to its initial state. * The Memory Card supplied with this camcorder has been formatted already. Attention If you execute the MEMORY FORMAT function, all images will be erased completely and erased images cannot be recovered. 1. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD. 2. Set the power switch to PLAYER mode. 3. Press the MENU button. 4. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight MEMORY and press the ENTER button. The sub menu will appear. 5. Select FORMAT from the list and press the ENTER button. 6. "ALL FILES ARE DELETED! FORMAT REALLY?" appears on the screen. 7. Using the MENU DIAL, select the item. NO : To return to previous menu YES : To start formatting. 8. Press the ENTER button. If you selected the YES, COMPLETE! appears on the screen when the MEMORY CARD formatting is finished. 9. To exit the menu, push the MENU button.
