Question about Panasonic RN-305 Handheld Cassette Voice Recorder

Open Question

My tape player will not play/record

Earlier today, I dropped my tape player.  The eject button was jammed and it took some work to get it unjammed.  The player will fast forward and reverse, but will not play or record.  Any ideas?

SOURCE: it sounds like its running, the power light goes

This kind of problem occurs if capstan motor stops running for some reason or mechanism drive belt got broken.
You need to take apart unit for visual check and replace it.
Replacement parts are available at Panasonic Parts Store.
Hope these info will help you.

SOURCE: I own a Panasonic RX-ES20

The tape speed in governed by the capstan and the pinch roller - a thin silver pin and a rubber wheel about 3/4" in diameter. If the tape is not caught between the two, it will run at about the speed of the reels - fast, Check that the pinch roller moves up to the capstan pin when you select play. If it does not, there may be some tape jamming it or the arm may be bent or dislodged.

There is no audio when playing a tape. Tapes work on another micro recorder.

Linda, either the pick up head is not engaging tape, out of alignment or is faulty.

How do you record on a Lanier p-164

Turn the main power button "on" first, it is located on the skinny side of the recorder opposite of the function knob. Press eject to open the cassette door and install a microcassette tape, with the tape facing the function knob side. close the cassette door and that should load the tape and allow the tape head and pinch roller to move into place for recording or playback. pull the function knob down or push it up to record. If you go into record a red light should come "on" the top, to indicate good batteries and the record function is initiated. After recording pull the function knob all the way down to rewind the recording, when you release the button the unit goes into the play mode automatically. Make sure that the button that reads (off--- vor/fplay) is in the off position.

Phillips Pocket Memo 381 The button you press in when recording will not press in! Any ideas tThe machine plays back tapes OK

You cannot push it in without a recordable tape in the unit. The mini cassette tapes have a removable erase prevention tab on each side in the front. If removed, you cannot push record. Try another tape. Otherwise the recorder needs repair.

What is the cue/f play/erase button on the top

When in RECORD, pressing the 'Cue' button will put a tone on the tape. This is used on the transcriber's machine to identify different jobs and such.

When in PLAY, pressing the 'F Play' button will change the playback speed to 1.5.

If you hold the 'ERASE' button and hold the portable in REWIND, it'll erase the tape while it's rewinding.

Hope this helps...

Erasing recorded tapes

While holding the 'Erase' button down, press the 'Rewind' or "Fast Forward' button. It will erase the tape while it rewinds or fast forwards.

Eject the tape from a Dictaphone 1243 voice recorder

The top cover slides down, and then the cassette should easily lift out.

I need a user manual for the Lanier P165 Voice recorder

I need a manual, too; however, I may be able to take an educated guess at some of your problems.

To get it to work (after trouble-shooting for battery issues, etc.), you simply slide the long "button" up and down. There are four settings -- all the way up is "record," then under that is "stop," then "play," and finally at the bottom is "rewind," which it does audibly. The two buttons beneath that are FF and eject (just below FF).

On the other side, there are four switches -- The top one adjusts microphone sensitivity from dictate to conference, the next one is tape speed (higher number means better quality but shorter time on tape), then the VOR on/off switch (voice-operated recording) which would start and stop the recording as you speak into it. Then below those three is simply the "on/off" switch for the whole recorder, so it doesn't accidentally get turned on in your pocket and you unintentionally record something.

On the top appear to be a few input jacks, one for a mic I guess and maybe other is for a speaker or headphones? Then there's the mystery button, that is labeled something like "# | / AFF." I have no idea what it does, but it may be to assign your counter number (counter and reset button on the front face of the machine) to a specific tape, so you can change tapes and return later to your first tape again without losing your place. Just a guess.

Here's some info I found on a seller's website - it served as the basis for some of my guesses above:

Good luck!

Can't release tape from CTR-121

How much warranty you have left on that product. It sounds as if you need to get that replaced. Or You need a new button. something may be broken off inside the machine.
