I had a similar problem with my left triger but cross731 had said to lift up the triger with your finger nail, and blow into the hole. This supposedly gets rid of dust. Now if you have damaged it by dropping it several times than.. I recremend that you take it in to be fixed.

My daughter spilled water onto the touch screen of her two-day old DS Lite. The screen has obvious water in it and won't read the game card. Can't get it apart because no screwdriver will fit anything! ...

My DS Lite went through the wash one time. Luckily it didn't go through the whole cycle. It didn't work right away, for the next three days actually. But on the third day it did start working. I didn't have any calibration issues on the touch screen, thank god, but the L and R trigger buttons stopped working. Luckily, I only play Pok'emon, so it didn't hinder me too bad. But yeah, just give it time.

Nintendo DS left trigger malfunction

the l and r buttons have springs behind them it could be the spring has snapped and the button has fallen onto the switch. the next time it happens hold the ds upside down if it stops its the spring if it doesnt stop then its the micro switch gone faulty and you would have to open up the bottom casing and replace it, its soldered on the motherboard and is smaller than a pea with 5 soldered joints.

My right trigger button dosent work

This is common with this unit. there's a rubber contact pad that can lose its structure during long term usage.when you press this button it contacts the rubber pad and the rubber pad makes contact with the circuit board creating action or movement on the screen. this pad can breakdown and lose its integrity.

Nintendo Ds Left Trigger

The trigger button needs replacing...a picture of the button is available at:
http://flickr.com/photos/shalf/2374701335/in/set-72157604320666655/

This needs to be done with a proper soldering iron, not the one in my garage!

Easy way to get it done, buy a new trigger from eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com.my/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150292378706) and take the part and your DS Lite (remove the covers to expose the switch, see YouTube for more help, 10 minutes work) to your local TV repair shop and ask them to solder the part onto your DS. They will usually charge a nominal amount and you DS is fixed!

Good Luck.

Nintendo DS Lite, left trigger not functioning

The thing that cross731 said really really helps. If your too scared to open your ds/ds lite, just put your nail under the trigger pull up and just blow into the little hole that you see. It works I just tried it and my left rigger is working just fine.
