Hello, I have a Hobart 180 and the wire feeder motor won't run. I replaced the wire feed motor and it still won't run. any ideas?

Sound like you have a bad trigger on the gun. Does gas spray when you pull the trigger? Check the wire plug that goes from the pistol to the unit. It should be under the liner hose where it connects to the machine. Then use a voltage meter on the wires going to the drive feed motor, and see if you get current when you pull the trigger. If gas doesn't spray neither, sounds like you got a bad trigger switch

THE WIRE CONTINUOUSLY FEEDS THROUGH THE GUN EVEN WHEN IM NOT PRESSING THE TRIGGER. IT JUST KEEPS COMING OUT

The trigger engages a relay that starts the feeder motor. Make sure your trigger is not stuck. Listen for a "click" when you squeeze it. Next, take the side cover off and look at the motor relay. If needed, remove the motor wire from the relay and try it again. My guess is the relay has arched shut. Please let me know how this works out.

My Hobart Handler 120 stopped working during a welding process. Now when I pull the trigger, the 30a 110v circuit breaker trips. The machine can be turned on and the breaker holds (cooling fan in the...

Please don't give me a bad rating for this. Its just a little extra info. you didn't mention that may help you find the problem. Depending on your specific model, there should be 1 or 2 breakers on the unit it self. If there is only 1, it will shut down the entire machine when tripped. If there are 2, the top one is for the whole unit and the lower one is for the wire feeder motor only. There is also a thermal overload that will shut down everything except the cooling fan. Secure the trigger closed and let the fan run for a while to see if it re-starts when cooled. If the depth of the weld was stable before the problem occurred, I would suspect a short in the motor and not the rectifier. That is not a sure bet though. If the transformer does not start when it cools, UNPLUG the welder and short the transformer to ground to be sure the capacitor is discharged. Then isolate the feed motor and transformer and use an OHM meter to test them individually to ground for a short. With a little luck, it will be the feed motor. Please let me know if this helped at all. I am new and still learning how to explain what I am thinking. Thanks for writing us.

My hobart handler 120 will not feed wire. took the feed motor off and tested. Its good. checked the trigger connections and they are both in good shape. The gas valve does click when the trigger is pulled....

First take our the spool of wire, then without any wire restriction, disconnect the gun from the machine and bridge the trigger connection, if the solenoid valve opens then the motor shoulod run. If it does, then check the trigger on your gun, take it off and bridge the cables, if it runs then your trigger switch is faulty.

Pull the trigger ,air comes out no fire

Ck the ground and the condition of the tip. The more it gets concave the harder it gets to get a arch. Gun angle is also important, hold at right angle to work and don't forget a very good ground.

you are going to need to remove the wires going to the wire feed motor, then take a volt meter and check the wires when you pull the trigger. this will tell you if the motor is bad or another problem
