My toshiba satellite laptop does not recognize the cd-dvd player

The problem began with the cd-dvd driver failing to allow the player to start. I tried to delete the driver and install a new one, but now the computer does not list the cd-dvd player as a hardware device.

Open up the Device Manager, right-click on the computer name and select Scan for hardware changes in the context menu. The system will attempt to re-detect all of your hardware. It should add the optical drive during this process (which will take several minutes). If it doesn't, your drive may be defective.

Having done all of that, if the drive D is not there, replace the drive as it is likely to be faulty.

Tip

Upgrade CD/DVD ROM to CD-RW/DVD ROM

I just replaced my original CD/DVD ROM with a Toshiba SD-R2512 CD-RW/DVD ROM in my 1805-S253 running Windows ME. I used "Roxio Easy CD Creator" for writing to CD's. Everything was "plug'n'play" except the bezel that came with the new drive had to be swapped out. Windows ME recognized the new drive immediately and I didn't have to load any new drivers. This upgrade will probably work on other 1800 or 1805 Satellite series machines.

My DVD/CD rom player suddenly not recognized

You may have to take out and put it back in. Make sure you this with the laptop off and then start after you insert the optical drive back in. There should be a switch or one screw that will allow you to remove the cd drive. If all else fails, try reinstalling the driver as well. If after all this you still have issues, you may need to replace the drive.

For some reason my CD/DVD player burner on my Toshiba A135 Laptop is not recognizing CD's or DVD's. I hear the drive spinning when I first install a disk but then nothing occurs. I ran a diagnostic on...

you might have accidentally uninstalled physically...
you also might have uninstalled the driver
you might have a virus
if you physically uninstalled it... physically reseat the burner...
if you uninstalled the driver...find the driver and reinstall it...
to check for virus get dr web cure IT and do a scan...
if that doesn't work call your pc tech support they will gladly help you...

I was using the dvd and then it suddenly stopped working and doesn't recognize when i put a dvd or cd in the drive

This sounds like the drive has failed. If a dvd rom will not read media (or if dvd-rw it will not write media) this is a clear indication that the drive has failed. You can determine your warranty status and start the process here: https://www.csdsupport.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/acclaim/acclaim_index.cgi

Thinkpad T40 DVD player

I would start with B, reinstall drivers and DVD decoding software. If that doesn't do the trick then it's definitely C. Failed DVD with CD capability is a common problem.

CD/DVD and Sound problem

Did your computer come with a restore disc? I find that a crupt c:file can reek havoc on any computer. If you do have a restore program disc. All c;files MUST BE SAVED TO A data DVD-RW discs that will hold all your files. Windows is notorious of self deleting start up files.

The first thing I would check is the speaker / headphone jack. These input jacks fail all the time and can effet your internal speakers. THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE PROBLEM>
