Question about Marantz SR-4200 Receiver
I have a brilliant Marantz DV4200 DVD player which has recently developed a very inconvenient problem whereby the remote functions no longer operate. The remote control handset has been tested & is fully functioning, however a local techncian has indicated that the remote chip in the set box is faulty and requires replacement. The big problem is that those parts are apparently no longer available in Melbourne. Having no remote functionality is grossly annoying particulartly given that not all funtions are accessible via the DVD set box butons. Rather than having to replace / upgrade this factastic DVD player, any assistance with providing access to a spare chip would be sincerley appreciated. Thanks Evan
If the 5volt supply is not missing, due to a dry joint on the front panel, check for data on pin 2 of the IR receiver. The receiver module is a common part to most Philips machines. The main micro is not likely to be at fault.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

All transformers buzz though you cannot hear it normally. The big transformers on power lines like to buzz for all to hear. When a transformer in a stereo amp gets old and deteriorates or gets hot and expands the coils, melts the coil varnish and epoxy coatings then rattles at 60 times per second. You can ignore it or change the transformer. There are too many layers of windings to try to stick anything in there. Disconnecting a transformer results in inductive kickback -that's not money. It's a big, whopping electrical gotcha! Be careful! Good luck, Steve Medley

Check for a stuck/jammed switch, press each switch if one doesn't make a normal click sound or it doesn't move at all that's your problem.
If that's not it check the owners manual for how to reset the receiver (not all manuals will tell you how to reset it) Another way to reset it is to short the memory cap, but that is better left to a tech.

SOURCE: Do you know the remote
The stock remote for the SR-18EX is the RC-18SR - that's the one it shipped with when new. You can also use the RC-2000, RC2000 MkII, and I have an aftermarket RC-1400 that works perfectly with my SR-18EX, AND offers 15 macros instead of the standard 4 you get with the stock remote.
