Use the "C" foot.
Set the "Stitch Width" dial to 0, then pull it out. You will now be able to rotate the knob and, if it is working properly, you will get the 4 parts of the buttonhole. Rotate to 1 and sew the left column, 2 for a bar tack, 3 for the right column coming down the other side and 4 should close it off.
The knob may be rotated back around to start another buttonhole by rotating forward. When it is pulled out, it will not stop turning at 4.
Always set the know to 0 to pull it out or push in.

6440 husqvarna sewing machine needs repair and replacement parts are difficult to acquire. where to get repair?

Try here http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/viking-6440-sewing-machine-parts.aspx

If your needed part isn't available there... The only hope in that case is to find another Husky of the same model and use one or the other as a parts machine. (or part out your Husky and buy something else with the earnings..... just don't buy new plastic ones)

Dog feed with husqvarna viking sewing machine model 6440 does not work

You should join the yahoo group "vikingsewingmachinespre1980". Bill will take very good care of you. I'm new to that group and have gotten every question I've asked answered. This is just for pre-1980 Vikings which includes the 6000 series - including the 6440. Good luck.

Hi, I have a Husqvarna Viking 6440 and for some reason, it will not stitch. The needle moves as if it's making a stitch, but it just makes holes in my fabric. Can you help me?

First make sure your needle isnt broken ( ive run into this myself then feel so dumb when found out needle was broke) and you thread is thru eye of needle and then check to make sure bobbin is installed correctly, from what your describing sounds like your bobbin isnt being picked up by the needle could be one of those 3 issues

oil it. down the shaft if you can get to it. and where ever there is a hole it always helps.

Looking for replacement cam

I found out that the cams for the 6000 series are no longer available through Viking repair or dealers. I will check on eBay to see if anyone has parts available there.

Husqvarna Viking 6440 buttonholer, reverse frozen

Hi,
A seller on e-bay who redoes Viking machines says the the grease they put in them (the older vikings) becomes too stiff and the knobs stop turning. He cleans them out and then he adds some kind of teflon lubricant. Probably can find him on e-bay still. He is informative.
