Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Singer Confidence 7463 Beeps, Won't Sew

I had been sewing a project for a couple of hours. When I went to sew a piece of velcro to the project, the machine beeped, all the lights on the side flashed multiple times, and the thread from the bobbin got tangled. After removing the tangled thread, and then removing the plate and cleaning it out (as per the instruction book), I tried to sew a regular piece of fabric. The machine did the same thing. I cannot figure out what the error is, especially since I've re-threaded it multiple times to see if that was the problem. Any ideas?

SOURCE: I place the fabric on

This is easily solved. Before you start sewing make sure your upper and lower threads are long enough for you to hold before lowering the presser foot. If these threads are too short they both get carried down into the bobbin along with the fabric and cause a big tangled mess. Always hold your threads at the back of your work with your left hand then lower your pressure foot and don't release the threads untill you have taken several stitches. Keep holding these threads during backstitching at the beggining of a seam too. Works like magic.

Check your manual for some troubleshooting tips. Something is not plugged in, or seated right, like the bobbin.

Just put my button hole foot on for the first time ready to practise a button hole but it just keeps beeping any ideas?

Yes, you need to review the steps to sew a button hole, because just putting on the foot is not enough. Generally there are several other things that must be set before it will actually sew buttonholes. Download your user's manual free at the Singer Sewing machine website, and review it.

Where can I buy a replacement foot controller and power cord for my singer confidence 7463?

Years ago, my second Singer [760] foot control "went", out of warranty. Singer weren't very good with parts for older models, and the sewing machine guy had to find another foot control and I had to do a lot of rewiring.

Anyway, if you go Online and look for your local Singer stockist, the part number should be there.

How do i drop the feed dog on singer 7463 confidence so i can free motion sew?

You cannot drop the Feed Dogs on a 7463 Singer. It should have come with a small black plastic shied that will slide over the Feed Dogs and clip into the two holes in the face plate to cover them completely. If you've lost that dark plastic plate, you can also tape an index card over them, or a piece of thin plastic (like template sheets) to get the job done.
