Question about Samsung HCM422W 42" Rear Projection Television
Like a lot of postings on this site i have a problem with convergence, but just the red gun. Seems worse on the bottom right of the sceen, is fine in the middle/left (or directly in front of the red run) and a little off on the far left. The blue and green are fine. Seems to me that the red just cant focus correctly. Carefully taking the front off the TV I can see that there are four resisistors?? LDRs?? (not sure what they are) in the middle of each side of the screen. I guess these are used to focus the guns when I use the auto convergence option as each gun in turn fires lines across the screen which intersect these components. Funnily enough the autoconvergence always gets stuck and fails on the red gun cycle. If one of these failing is the problem does anyone know what they are called and how much they cost - it looks like I'm going to have to go to an engineer about this but i would like to know what the likely cost is before I get them out! Many thanks :)
You need to get two STK392-040 IC's to replace the defective ones on the convergence board. You DO NOT want to get these IC's from just anywhere. There are a lot of after market or factory reject IC's that some parts houses are sell and these do not last. Only get original Sanyo IC's to replace for the bad ones. I buy mine from here http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com/STK392-040.htm and have had no trouble what so ever. If you are good at soldering, you should be able to replace these on your own and save about 300 bucks or so. If you do not know how to solder or work on printed circuit boards, you really should call in a pro to assist you in this repair.Good Luck

as i see in your comment.. you have defective convergence correction amplifier ICs. the RED GREEN and BLUE (RGB) is amplified by the STK ICs. your RED convergence is not working good in the STK ICs! Replace the STK ICs a new one to get back the normal colors. Thanks...
