Question about Tivo Series2 TCD649080 Video Recorder

1 Answer

Recording is choppy and picture freezes

When playing back on my Tivo, the recording is often spotty, with frozen images. It is unwatchable and this problem occurs sporadically. It's no longer under warrantee so I don't want to take it into a repair shop.

Re: Recording is choppy and picture freezes

Most likely it's the hard drive, or a loose connection. Either way, I'd bet it's the hard drive and you can replace it very easily.

I was watching a PVR recording and it just froze. The remote battery is fine, as I can turn the TV on and off, but I can't get our of the PVR event. any suggestions would be welcome. Not sure if I should...

Pvr programs are played back from a hard disk drive inside or attached to the receiver. You may be able to reboot the receiver and pay back the event, there may be damage to the disk drive that caused it to freeze playback. You may also have had a signal issue during recording (especially with satellite based dvrs) that caused the image to freeze.

Modify series2 dt tivo to transfer hd programs

Even if (to put a very strict interpretation on the phrase "transfer hd programs") you only mean to copy HD shows to the S2 DT and then copy them elsewhere from the S2 DT, without ever trying to tune the S2 DT to an HD channel and record, or play back an HD recording....

Extremely impractical.

You would likely have to design a new motherboard with different components, and you would certainly have to write a custom version of the TiVo software (the closed source part of it), which means who knows how long to reverse engineer it.

Did I mention the hideously expensive part?

Love the S2 DT for what it is and put your money into a Series 3 or later with a lifetime sub for your HD needs.

Can I record VHS tapes to my TiVo model TCD649080?

Sure, just plug the output of the VCR into the input on Tivo. Set the Tivo to Channel 0 or 1, hit play on the VCR and then Record button on Tivo. Stop recording when the tape (or portion of) is finished.

Philips hdr 212 tivo manual recording

Hello, You cannot without a LIFETIME SUBSCRIPTION. Or Subscribe for the monthly fee.
Look into some of the older ReplayTV Units. RTV-1000,2000,3000 series. You can do manual record without a fee.
There are some Tivo Hack Software Tips out on the internet.
But not sure how well they work.

I'm getting cable channels but no high def

Your TiVo is only recording basic cable (i.e., channels it can receive without a cable box). You will need a digital cable box from your cable company to record channels above 99. If your TiVo is a Series 2 you will not be able to actually record in HD either. You should be able to record the HD channels from the cable box, but they will not be HD quality. (This is my current setup and while the picture quality is much better than basic cable, it pales compared to bypassing the TiVo and watching HD directly off the cable box to the TV.)

You can do this. Just run the camera into the composite input. Then, go into the settings, setup of the tivo and make sure you have cable w/ cable box or satellite selected. It will test to see if you have a video signal on the composite inputs, just make sure your camera is on and outputting video. You may have to choose a channel like 0 or 3 to get video, but it should work. You may have to play with the actual setup but as long as it has video, then you should be good to go. Then, when you want to record, just setup a manual recording on that channel for however long you want to record and it should work just fine.
