HSS25IFMD quit cooling--was plugged with dust/dirt

HSS25IFMD Side by Side Hotpoint refrigerator quit cooling. First noticed the freezer portion warming. Stopped making ice. Then noticed later that things were defrosting. Both sides not cooling. We pulled it out. Was very dusty/dirty. Overnight, it wasn't cooling. Must have overheated. What's your guess is wrong? a. compressor b. free-on/refrigerant c. control board I understand you can't really guess, w/o looking 'under the hood'. Thanks I hope it's not the compressor?

The ice maker maybe jammed with ice. Or pull the plug for a day or two to melt the ice then plug it back in. Good luck.

Our freezer quit working tonite..hss251fmdww model # hotpoint side by side

My new years gift was for my Hotpoint HSS25IFMD to stop cooling. Lack of any cooling is typically a bad compressor. This model refrigerator was made in 2002. Seems like the compressors are designed to fail within a year or two after the warranty expires.

Refrigerator not keeping things cool and freezer

this is usually caused by dirt either around the fan if its a built in fridge, or around the cooling fins at the back of the fridge.Make shure you unplug the fridge before investigating what is wrong.

I have about ten years old kenmore refrigerator model# 363.58062896' it won't cool.

Check out underneath the refrigerator if the coil is all plugged up with dust and dirt. either blow or vacum the dirt and dust out so that it can cool again

I have a Hotpoint HSS25IFMD WW sise by side

A thermistor is a 2" torpedo looking piece with 2 wires attached to it . The defrost bimetal , a 1" round aluminum piece , snapped onto the coils , with 2 wires , should be replaced when replaceing the heater . This bimetal could be the problem . To test the defrost system , remove the main control board cover . The blue plug with 3 wires to it needs to be connected . Looking at the plug , the wireing will look like this : l l l . Lets call the terminals 1 2 3 . Useing a piece of insulated wire with both ends stripped , insert one end into terminal 2 and the other end into terminal 3 . The heater will come on if both the heater AND bimetal are good . If you put a new heater in and it wont come on , and you do this test , then the bimetal has to be bad . If your terminology is correct , you have 2 thermisters in the freezer . One on top of the coils ( evaporator sensor ) and one at the bottom by the drain pan ( freezer temp sensor ) . Wouldn't hurt to replace both if you replaced one .

My freezer works fine, but fridge doesn't cool down below 55 degrees. Could it be the adjustment dial in the fridge.(i have cleaned the dust and dirt out of the back/bottom.

It sounds like the circulating fan is wearing out. The fan circulates air thru the freezer as well as the refrigerator. When it starts to wear out the force is reduce to a point that the freezer will get cold but the refrigerator will not get cool. The minimum cost of the assemble is around $300.00
