Question about Canon ZR85 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

I have a Canon ZR85. It works fine till a few days ago. When I rewind a tape to recored, it asked me to take out the tape. When I load a tape it makes a ding tone and ejects immediately. It will not allow me to load any tape after. I tried different tapes and fully charged batteries. I tried 1 solution posted here by taking off the battery and reset. It still didn't work. Can you help?

Hi

Depending on the conditions that caused this message to appear, it is possible that the camcorder operation may recover. Please follow these steps:

  1. Eject the videotape
It is possible that the tape was damaged that you inserted first. If the camcorder still displays the message with a new tape, please proceed to step 2.
  2. If condensation had been detected causing the Remove the Cassette warning, remove the cassette, and allow at least one hour for the moisture to dry.
Please check this CANON ZR85 for more information.

If still the "Remove the Cassette" message continues, the camcorder may require service. Please contact Canon USA's Tech Support Center at 1 (800) 828-4040. Technical support hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00am - 8:00pm (all times EST).

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Canon ZR85 Tapes will not go in, it will eject the tape. Why?

Sounds as if your camera has a mechanical problem with the tape loading mechanism. It is possible that it just needs a clean/lube, but otherwise it will need to be repaired or replaced.

VCR won't eject tape - timing of loading mechanism is off

Now-a-days most of the gears are made out of plastic(HDPE, if I remember correctly), when the rewinding command is given even if one gear tooth is worn/broken it will throw the entire timing out of 'gear'. Since the problem has already occurred, and, this is the only function that has malfunctioned my advice would be to leave it as it is! ('cos repairing/replacing it is manual & therefore a costly affair plus there is no guarantee that the replacedment will function properly)....sodeep

Wont record anything to MiniDV tape and A/D randomly working

Hello,

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.

Tape Playback

Try cleaning the tape heads with a DV tape cleaner and see if that works.

Tape ejects immdediately when I load tape.

I own a Sharp VL-Z1 DV video camera. I had this same problem and thought it was from using the ME Maxell tapes. I took the battery out of the unit and let it reset. Worked fine after that.

8mm Tape stops when rewinding

try this:
some cameras have a memory where they begin make sure the memory is off or cleared then try to rewind or try fwd to end clear memory then rewind tape...

now sometime tapes of 120 are really not recommended because of the load of tape amd ost have a tension sensor 60m is usually the best recommended
