Question about Optoma HD70 DLP Projector

Changed bulb in Optoma HD70 Projector. Still have lamp failure

Our lamp failure light came on the projector. We purchased a new bulb, changed it, metal switch made the connecting sound, powered up, and still have the orange lamp failure light on. Optoma's troubleshooting manual is a joke. I need real advice here. Can anyone help? Power is not an issue here. My green power light is on and the projector is trying to come on. It tries a few times and then the orange lamp failure light stays on.

Right, I saw that. However, don't you need an actual picture to go through the menu prompts to reset the lamp meter? We don't even get a picture. There is no light coming from the projector at all and the lamp looks fine. All we have is the green "on" light and orange "lamp failure" light. Nothing else.

You state the lamo looks fine, yet it is not working?? Hmmmm, confusing. But, We will work with it.Thegreen is letting you know the machine is powered up. The amber lamp says the lamp has failed. Two different things. Ok, somethingsenses current passing through the bulb, or the light/heat it emmits. More that likely the light, through a photo electric sensor. The sensor should be in the close proximity of the bulb, Look around in that area of the bulb. Could you or have you done this? Also, Look for a possible fuse in the circuit. Good luck. There should also be a cooling fanfor the bulb. So a fuse is very likely

If you have recently replaced the bulb you may need to reset the lamp counter in the projector menu.
If you have not replaced the bulb, the projector may be shutting down due to over-heating. Check that the projector is clear of as much dust and debris as possible.

My optoma hd70 projector which is 4 years hold has worked perfectly. However when I switch it on it works for a few minutes, then the screen turns various colours, it makes a funny noice and then switches...

The color wheel sensor needs good cleaning. an optical lens cleaning liquid might help. also clean the fans and vents if you open it. I had to remove the sensor and clean. then it worked.

I just put in a new lamp bulb for the second time and it seems that when i use my projector for about 15 minutes it seems to change colors on me like it will freak out and just change colors.. why is this...

Its not the lamp. I had the exact same problem. You need to clean the inside of the optoma from dust. Especially clean the colorwheel and the sensor next to it. Search on google for more on this.

You didn't include much information other than the lamp not coming on. Here are a few things to try, if you haven't already. Unplug the projector and allow it to sit for a minute or two. Try removing/re-installing the lamp assembly. Sometimes especially after a lamp change the bulb/contacts are not properly seated. Ensure the screws are securely fastened to keep the bulb seated. Are there any lights, i.e. power, bulb or fan errors lit? I've had my HD70 since 2006 and use it everyday for my main television. PS3, DVDs and Cable all run through it. I average one bulb per year and about 3100 hrs on each bulb. My last bulb actually lasted 3600. I have tried all the above and each has worked at some point. Hopefully you can have some success.
