You need to replace the STR-G6353 voltage regulator on the power supply board. Full proceedure with photos at this link: http://www.rbjtech.net/electrical/e85/e85.htm#0 I did this on my DMR-E85H and it now works like new.

My dvd player rdr-hxd860 seems to be frozen on 'welcome'

I've had the same problem. I've actually unplugged the unit and it's been unplugged for probably about two weeks. When I reconnected the power this morning the problem persisted where the DVD Recorder was stuck on the Welcome Screen. As a last ditch effort I pressed and held the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the word "Welcome" dissapeard of the screen and back on. This seems to have reset the unit. I know I should have tried this a long time ago. So much for reading the instruction manual! I'm just glad it's working again!

Frozen up with please wait read out on unit

Hello MrBrokeit, Shotgunning works sometimes, but the effort spent is often not worth the time spent. Let me explain if your power supply is defective then shotgunning will produce results, however if the problem is elsewhere you will never know it. I would suggest troubleshooting the unit, to determine where the problem really is. For this task I would suggest that you get a schematic diagram of the unit, a multimeter, and an oscilloscope. use the schematic to find the various test points, use the multimeter to measure the voltages at the test points, and then use the oscilloscope to measure the signals at the test points. Troubleshooting in this fashion will produce better results than as with the shotgun method. I would suggest checking for ripple voltage in the DC path. This voltage is due to AC bleed over from poor regulation by malfunctioning filter capacitors. you will not see physical signs of the problem but a quick check of the capacitors will let you know if the is the problem. Also check to see if the DC voltage across the positive terminal of the capacitor is held at the level it should be at. Then check all points on the power supply and compare them to the schmatic. Thank you, Shuttle83

How to record a program you are watching on your cable satellite receiver.

Hello,

Most of the time we watch TV programs with our cable satellite receiver/decoder. And sometimes we would love to record these programs so that we can watch them again. You can learn how to record your TV program while you watching a TV program.

All you will be needing is a DVD recorder or VCR (Video cassette Recorder). It all depends on the one you prefer.

There are two methods of doing this connection. 1. is RF connection and the other is RCA. But I will start with the RF connection method;

This is how is works. Get a RF cord, check the back of your TV, you would see RF in, connect the RF into TV in, then connect the other part to RF Out at the back of the Cassette or DVD Recorder.

Turn the Cassette or DVD Recorder and the TV on. Go to Channel 1 or any channel on the TV, search the TV stations automatically or manually in order to get a display of the Cassette or DVD Recorder on the TV. To easily get the Cassette or DVD Recorder's station, play a movie on the Cassette or DVD Recorder while you search for the station. Once you see the display of the movie on your TV, you would easily know that that's the Cassette or DVD Recorder station.

Once you have gotten a display from the Cassette or DVD Recorder, save the channel on the TV.

Then get another RF cord, connect it to "RF out" at the back of the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver and the other part to "RF in" at the back of the Cassette or DVD Recorder.

Now with the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver turned on and the Cassette or DVD Recorder also turned on, press the Cassette or DVD Recorder's channel, you should find search. Scan for channel/stations on the Cassette or DVD Recorder just like you did on the TV and you will find a display of the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver showing on the TV via the Cassette or DVD Recorder. Note that on some Cassette or DVD Recorder, you will have to select "Source" to RF before you can get a display of the channel.

Now since the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver program is now showing via the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver, insert a black disc or cassette into the Recoder and press record. The Satellite/cable decoder/receiver programs showing on the TV via the player will be recorded and that would be all.

For some recorders that has internal hard drive, you can just press record without inserting a blank disc......

USING RCA CONNECTION METHOD.

You could also achieve this by using a RCA (yellow, red and white cord).

The connection procedure is the same with the RF explained above.

Connect the Recorder to the TV. That is, from "Video and audio Out" of the recorder to "video and audio in" of the TV accordingly. Press AV or source on the TV to confirm that there is a display from the recorder on the TV.

Now connect the RCA cord to "OUT" from the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver to "IN" at the back of the Recorder.

Then, press source on the recorder to "INPUT" (RCA) and the Satellite/cable decoder/receiver's program will automatically display on the TV.

While the Program is being displayed on the TV via the recoder, insert a blank disc and press record on the player and it will automatically start recording. You will see the record or record symbol while the recoding is in progress.

I hope you understand the above. Please follow steps closely and you won't have any problems.

Good luck.

My DVD Recorder Won't Start

Sometimes, the Sony documentation recommends unplugging the DVD Recorder for at least 30 minutes, instead of the regular 15 seconds. I know this timing makes a difference on DVR's.

Frozen on the Please Wait

This is a hard drive failure and is expensive to fix, and not worthwhile in my opinion. Mine packed in with a disc stuck in the disc drive. It was difficult to retrieve. If you have no disc trapped in the tray, I would suggest dismantling anyway and removing the hard drive if you have a load of unwatched content recorded. You can buy a cable to hook it up to a PC - Although I have not done this yet.
