Sorry, I unplugged the heater and then plugged it back in and the vent started up. Checked the hose on the power vent, it's OK. The gas is on and the switches are on, as they have been for the last 2 years. It's been happily making hot water until today. What is the ECO?

You plugged it in and the fan started or you unplugged it and the fan started,,the fan will come on first before the unit will inginte to take out the excess gas, if it didn't lite then the ignitor might not be working there are 2 swithces on the unit one on the fan and one by the gas valve make sure they are both on and make sure the gas it also turned on.

turn off the switches unplug the unit,,, turn the temp down to the lowest setting, then plug it in turn on the switch on the fan then on the gas valve this should light it up,, it has to start on the lowest setting for heat, or it will not start

What does ECO failure mean on my hot water heater?

I'm guessing about model. I Goggled Eco failure. For reheme this site and discussion may help. http://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/ge-rheem-power-vent-eco-failure-code-gg50s06rvj.43646/
but since it's gas, and an expensive unit I'd call the installer or his service.

Have 75 gallon gas water heater. Can I run 90 PVC off top power vent without vertical PVC first? Have Richmond unit.

1) I believe you can immediately elbow the PVC pipe.
There is a limit for how many elbows can be used between blower and termination, and limit is determined by diameter of PVC pipe.

2) Copy following link for venting resources and typical Rheem and Richmond power vent manuals, and diameter-elbow pdf from Bradford White.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#venting

3) Richmond is Rheem. Product manual will show specifications for venting.
Product warranty is voided if installation does not follow specifications shown in manual.

Rheem model 41vrp40n flashes twice and stops working

Error code means that you have electronic gas control valve.

Copy following link to identify gas control valve, read error code meanings for each, and download service manual relevant to each gas control, but not specifically Rheem since rheem does not post service manuals.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-gas-water-heater.html#intellivent

The fact that water heater restarts, means that water heater is getting gas, getting sufficient air for combustion, thermister is ok, gas pressure is good, etc.
The fact that you unplug and replug water heater and it works, shows that you have power vent model.
Since water heater worked correctly before, 2 flashes with Rheem power vent model could mean that pressure switch has failed.

Hi My Power Vented hot water tank vent will not shut off even after the water has reached its temp. I think this tank is 1989.

Water heater and brand are not identified:
Question posted under electric water heater, but electric water heaters are not power vent.

First suspect is gas control valve thermostat.
Or burned points on contactor that turns on the blower.
Check if the burner is still going so you are not getting runaway heating that will trip the ECO and require possible gas valve replacement.

Open following link for older Reliance troubleshoot manual, plus some troubleshooting resources and illustrations, plus link to find age of water heater:

Rheem power vent 2 water heater keeps shutting off

you need to replace the upper thermostat, it has the overtemp switch made to it. Also make sure that the thermostat is pushed up tight to the tank with no space or object between them.

Rheem power vent motor doesn't shut off

There could be blockage in your water heaters venting on the outside of the home. It sound like the high limit switch has been tripped. Try unplugging the tank and plugging it back in. this will reset the tank. if the problem persists you will want to call your provider for service.

ECO failure. Replaced the gas control thermostat & vapor sensor

It sounds like your gas/air mixture needs to be adjusted. The flame should have just the slightest amount of white, at the very tip. The rest should be evenly blue. There is an air vent adjustment in the line to the burner, right after the gas input.
