Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB9150A Built-in Dishwasher

2 Answers

Clogged filter I have a Maytag JetClean EQ Plus (model number MDB9150AWS) and the filter under the lower arm is clogged and I don't know how to clean it. I can remove the filter, but it has several "windows" covered in mesh in which I can see debris, but I can't figure out how to open these "windows" to clean them. And how can I prevent the clogging to begin with?

The particles are too big to be cleaned out just with running water. The gunk gets in...just can't see how to get it out!

I can't seem to find the plastic cover that hides the cutting blade. Is that on the filter itself?

  • flynnjacobs May 30, 2009

Can't find the cutting blade. I did remove the spray arm and removed the filter...that's where I'm stuck. I have the filter in hand, but can't figure out how to clean out each filter window, which all appear somewhat full of gunk. The filter screens allow water in, but not much else, so I can't rinse out the particles.

Hi, The mesh does not open. You will need to GENTLY clean each section with running water. Are you using powder or liquid soap?
The most common thing that plugs them is food particles. This unit is best served by pre-rinsing the dishes. The mess gets plugged to easily.
I hope this helps.

If you remove the spray arm, you will find more screws in a cover over the filter (probably torx screws)

Remove them and the cover will lift off.

    Does this help?

It should clean up with running water. If you have a soft brush, that might help loosen the gunk.

There is a plastic cover it has little hole like a grate in it, you will need a 1/4 inch nut driver to get the cover off and inside there is a cutting blade inside for fod that might get by, poor some water in when you get it apart then run a cycle after cleaning with nothing in it

It sounds like you have a faulty float switch. It's cutting off the water inlet before the tub is full.

You have debris down in the pump area. To get to the problem you will work from inside the dish washer and start by removing the spray arm and then using torx driver you will need to remove upper components of the pump/motro assembly to get to the debris. good luck

Try this. From what I have found Maytag discontinued the Repair manual but it appears that all MDB and MDC models fell under this one repair manual.

Dishes not clean. Lower spray arm possibly not moving.

Remove the lower basket so you can access the lower arm.

Does it spin freely? If not, remove and clean the rotating point. Make sure the spray nozzles are not clogged and there as no chunks of stuff inside the spray arm.

Maytag jetclean eq plus dishwasher: soap problem

This could be due to 2 problems: not enough water or water is not being pumped hard enough through the system. The 'not enough water' is easy to check - open the door in the middle of a wash cycle. If you have enough water (about 1" or more) then that is probably ok. The 'not pumping hard enough' could be as simple as plugged up filters and holes in the spray arms. Remove the racks and disassemble the lower spray arm and the filter assembly all the way down past the screen. Clean the arm holes, throughly clean the screen, clean everything. Pull the top spray arm and throughly clean the spray holes there. Put it all together and run a cycle. You should see a pronounced increase in the sound of the water spraying around. This should fix your problem - it did for me.

Normally when you have low water pressure and/or cleaning issues, this an indication of a clog in your main wash pump. You will need to remove the lower spray arm and the coarse screen to get to the main wash pump sump. Inspect the impeller area of the pump. This area is usually where accumulations of debris collect and keep the pump from pulling enough water. Things like orange seeds, lemon seeds, bottle cap liners, chicken bones, and jar labels are just a few of the items I have personally found. Although, dishwashers do a good job at removing most food particles, they are not garbage disposals. I bet you will find a clog in the sump somewhere. Let me know if this helps.
