Ur going to have to unmount the the motor from the shaft

step 1. Unbolt throttle housing

step 2. now with that out of the way u should see a clamp holding the motor to the shaft, loosen and pull the shaft out, there will be a cable, so make sure u have it lined up so it goes back into place

step 3, look at the back of the motor, u should see screws going into the plastic housing (coming in from back going into plastic)

step 4. once that is off pull the broken part of the cord out

step 5. wind up the starter coil, (it will only wind up one way) its spring loaded so be carful, once it stops back it off 1 full turn

step 6. u will see a hole for the cord in the housing and in the coil, make sure they are lined up

step 7. insert the cord through both holes, tie it as tighttttt as possible, then let the spring do the rest

step 8. put it back together

Jamie, could be a recoil problem, broken clutch, probable the engine has seized on your weed wacker. You can try and free up, rebuild or replace trimmer. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Hi there. Firstly remove the end with the starter cord and make sure the fly wheel is opening when you pull the cord. If not lubricate it until it frees. If it is working then it could be just the carb gaskets need replacing or the worst case is that the piston is broke and may need sorting.

I need to know how the clutch works as I believe it is broke. The engine is an EZ fire 25cc craftsman on my weedeater/cultavator.

The clutch is centrifugal, if the clutch is broken it will most likely be hung up and not disengage making it difficult to pull the rope. Please let me know the model number xxx.xxxxxx and more about the symptoms.

If the rope recoils back into the starter, at least the starter spring is not broken...but...if you can break the unit down to where you can get a good look at it, you may find that the ratchets on the starter pulley are not engaging with the pawls on the flywheel...The pawls are spring loaded so they engage and then drop out of the way when starting, See if you can break the machine down to that point and post back,

The pull cord on my poulan pro weedeater will not

You have a broken recoil spring. Dis-assemble (pull-off) the recoil housing and check for proper dog alingnment, broken spring, or something jammed between recoil sprocket and engine block.

Replacing pull cord on weedeater

there is another t20 screw in the neck of the drum. once removed you will expose the drive clutch. soak it good with WD40 then unscrew it from the shaft. if you have all the housing screws out, you should be able to simply remove the housing to expose the pull cord assembly, screwed to housing.

Broken pull cord

You have to take four allen screw out of the plastic that holds the engine on. There is also one by the spark plug that needs to come out. Once the engine is loose, you have to unplug one wire and unscrew the other. Then the engine should come off. Then loosen the two allen screws holding the pulley in and it will come out.

Clutch

Two things, The rope pulley has lugs on it for the flywheel pawls, the lugs are worn off mainly due to pulling the rope before the pawls engage. replace plastic pulley..

the flywheel pawls are siezed in the run position full of dirt or rust clean and free up.
