Electric Karcher pressure washer surging when turned on

I have an electric karcher 1600 psi pressure washer that when you turn it on it surges about every 2 seconds. When you pull the trigger it runs alright, but as soon as you let go it starts surging again. I've tried everything I know would love some help.

Dear firenutt681,
One simple thing you can do, is to check for leaks. Check if hose at machine is leaking. Check gun if it is leaking. You can also check if water still comes out of lance nozzel. These leaks however so small, will cause the machine to surge.
Another reason is due to a faulty SPILL VALVE. This spill valve( often called CONTROL VALVE) will contract when the gun is closed. When it contracts under the enclosed pressure it will switch off the machine by means of a Micro Switch. Now if this Spill valve is faulty it will loose its compression under pressure and puts on the micro switch again. This can be seen once in a while or more frequent, as in your case. I sometimes do service Spill Valves, but mostly I replace them with a new one. I do not know the model number of your machine, but normally you have to open the cover and you should spot the spill valve on the head. Most probably you see a thick wire or a cap containing the micro swith. If you find the micro switch, you have found the spill valve. Sometimes it is a bit hard to pull out the spill valve. Myself, in various Karcher models I remove the spill valve by trying to feed water and put on a bit the machine. In this way the spill valve will be spitted out.
Another reason which makes your machine surge, is leakage from from the detergent inlet.
If you do not see no leakages at all....then for sure it is the SPILL VALVE.
If you cannot do this job yourself or you do not find spare parts...you can continue using the machine as it is...but before closing the gun...switch off the electricity. I only recommend this in an emergency. You do this so that you do not leave the machine surging. This surge will for sure damage the electric motor and the capacitor (assuming it is single phase).
Regards,
Fulltech.

I have had the same problem. It is the o-ring on the plastic check valve, located on the inside of unit and accessed when you remove the metal clip holding the water inlet piece. You cant buy a new check valve by itself, or the oring from a Karcher parts supplier. But you can get a new mm size o-ring from the online O-ring store. Just not sure what exact size. Possible 1.3 to 1.5 cs and 3 to 3.5 ID. If you locate the correct size, let me know!

I have no pressure and the pump surges when i release the trigger on my electric karcher modle k 2.360

If you have a Karcher then you should always post your machines barcode.

Because you have the low pressure and pulse this will be the valve block. Your machine has 3 piston and each has 2 valves (inlet and outlet). Because you dont have the barcode, i cant be sure if you will buy a valve kit of 6 valves or a pre-assembled manifold block.

it could be this machine and spares :
http://www.sparesgiant.com/cleaning-equipment/pressure-washers/karcher/k-series-parts/k2-range/k2-36m16724300/

The karcher barcode is on a silver sticker and is usually 15 digits long. Example 156987400000123 is actually model 1.569-874.0 and serial number 00123....

When i turn it on all it does is to keep surging

Check that you have sufficient inlet flow and pressure and that the inlet is not blocked in any way, both the supply hose and in the machine itself.

Washer surges when trigger pulled

Check that your are getting proper water pressure. Also check filter going into the machine where the hose connects sounds like the washer is not getting enough water pressure.

I have a karcher pressure washer 1800 psi i bought from walmart it was running good until i had a power surge with the plug in. what can i do can i change the fuse in the plug or do i have to open the...

you will have to take the cover off & look for melted wires or a fuse.
if there is no fuse the capacitor may have been cooked.
it should be a white cylinder.if it has been damaged it will have burn marks and may be swollen.
replace the capacitor and it should start.

My Karcher K9.8 electric pressure washer started

Not Simple.
I have the same Problem, the leak is from the seam of the Manifold or on the pressure side of the Pump and the hose housing. In my case there is a small crack in the seam of the Manifold Housing. A manufacturing defect.. A New Manifold Complete Replacement about the half the price what I paid for this pressure washer at Walmart... :( If under 1 year old, and you can find a receipt,Karcher will replace the whole Pressure washer under warranty.

The motor keeps surging

If there's a lot of sediment in your water supply, there's a chance that sediment has gummed up the pressure switches. I'm assuming it has a full power switch and high power switch. It runs on full power until a pressure switch is satisfied, and runs on low power to slowly build the pressure back up, at which a second switch is satisfied from the pressure and turns the motor off. These things are not easy to work on, and are made of metal probably too fragile to try any chemicals. You should probably contact the manufacturer.

Karcher Power Washer that surges up and down with water pressure.

Before you start it up:
1. Disconnect the high pressure hose 2. Connect the water supply and turn on 3. Make sure water is flowing through the pump
Start the motor, run for about 10 seconds and then turn off.
Turn off the water supply, connect the high pressure hose, turn water back on, start the motor and away you go.

Karcher k7.80 pressure washr

I have a Karcher K 3.86 M electric PW with a similar problem: water leaks from the pump near the outlet and the pressure surges on and off continuously at intervals of 1-2 seconds. The leak appears to be coming from a very thin crack in the plastic pump head in what I think is the "unloader" valve portion. I read elsewhere that if you leave water in these PW's and it freezes it will crack, causing leaks. I don't know how you can empty all the water out so I think we must store these PW's in areas that won't freeze in winter.
