Does each blade turn counter clockwise to be removed?

All that I have seen are right hand threads. What make and model of mower do you have and how many blades?

HOW DO I REMOVE THE BLADES

The blades are typically a 'right hand' thread and tighten against the normal blade rotation for safety reasons. This means they have a tendency to work themselves tighter during use. Try using a good pair of LEATHER gloves and hold the blade with one hand while loosening the bolt (or nut) with the other. To loosen, turn the bolt (nut) COUNTERclockwise.

If this is a push mower... REMOVE THE WIRE FROM THE SPARKPLUG FIRST !!!!!! Push mowers can start when rotating the blade by hand because it turns the engine over just as a crank or pullrope would.

Make sure to take note of the positioning of the cutting surfaces of the blade and re-install them correctly...many mowers have had their blades installed backwards by mistake.

Take extra care when re installing them as they will now be SHARP !!!!!

Toro self propelled mower. blade won't stay tight

Use a block of wood to hold blade stationary while tightening bolt. Ensure threads are cleaned with a wire brush before tightening. Is there a spacer or washer missing?

What is wrong with the toro push mower pull cord if it will not pull out?

I would say check the bolts that hold down the pull cord they are the same thread as the cover bolts but the cover bolts are a tad longer and if used on the pull cord housing they stick down to far and hit the fan blades on the magneto and it will not rotate

The Blades turn on my Toro but bog down very easily even in short grass. The blades turn but not at full rotation

This may seem daft but have you put the blades on correctly, they turn in opposite directions and the curved part should be pointing upwards!
Looking from above and facing towards the front the left blade turns clockwise & the right anticlockwise (the right hand one has a left hand thread holding it on, as i now realise after hacksawing it off!!)

Does the blades have left hand threads or right hand threads when relacing the blades

The blade bolts have a normal right-handed thread orientation. But remember, when you are installing a blade bolt, the bolt is facing UP from the ground, not DOWN to the ground; hence the confusion.

I wish to know which direction do i turn the bolt to take the cutting blade of a john deere ride on/ clockwise or anticlockwise?

As you are looking at the blade and bolt from under the mower, if the blade is rotating counterclockwise, then the blade bolt is standard threaded and will turn counterclockwise to loosen. If the blade is turning clockwise, then the bolt is left hand threaded and will turn clockwise to loosen. John Deere produces mower decks with both setups.
Good luck!

Need manual to see what size bolt is that holds on

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly,

It appears your model number is 74370 There are 3 bolts one for each blade and the part number is 26-0671 or 260671 for the blade mount.

Part look up:

http://www.jackssmallengines.com
then enter part number 260671 $6.31 ea.

You can not use just any bolt for this. They are hardened bolts with an NF thread. If you use a non hardened bolt the blade will fly off when the bolt shears.

This bolt is available at most all Lawn Mower Parts Supply sources. Toro uses the same bolt on most all of their mowers.

If you do not have a Lawnmower Parts Supply near by, you might be able to go to an Autoparts supply source with yet one of the other blade bolts in hand and have them match the markings on the bolt head with yours so that you have the exact replacement bolt.

Any other parts for your mower can be found here:
http://www.jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm

Use the Search model window. each line below is a drop down window
Toro
Riding
74370 <- there are numerous models up to 74704
enter your model number if different.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Are blade mounting bolts left or right hand threaded ?

Right hand threads. I just replaced mine. The bolt will turn off in the same direction the blade turns when it is running.
