Question about Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools

Toro Recycler won't keep on

I asked someone to help me put on a new spark plug. Well the guy wanted to do more. Regardless he was mad when I asked for my mower back 2 wks later. Is there a screw or something on the carborator that could be adjusted to keep it running that this guy could of done to not make it start now?? There is no lever or anything on this mower to adjust the idle. It is a 22 inch Toro Recycler. I am a single mom with no money the lawn mower was hardly used in the past year. This guy wanted $100 bucks to get it ready for spring all I wanted was a spark plug as I had no tool to get it off. He took it and came back saying I needed a carb redo at $50 and then bad valves??? at another $125. I could buy a new one at that but I have no money can anyone help me out to fix this myself?

Yes, I can help you. Are you mechanically inclined? Could be a fairly simple fix.
But I have a couple of questions:
    1. Does the mower run at all?
2.If yes, how long will it run before it quits?
    3. Does it have a primer bulb that you push to get gas to the carburetor, before you start it?
    4. How old is it, (roughly)?
    5. On the carburetor, can you see two screws on it? They will be right next to one another. If it is a newer mower, it may not.
The guy was right, a new carb. kit is about $15-$20 plus his labor time = $50. That's reasonable. But you may be able to do this yourself with a few tools.
    6. Can you barrow some tools from a friend?

SOURCE: Toro Lawn Mower Won't Start

this is a very common problem with these toro mowers. the needle valve in the bowl of the carb. is plugged up with dirt or varnish from the fuel. just under the primer bulb there is the carb bowl. it has a nut under it that holds it on remove the bowl and make sure fuel flows constantly while the bowl is off. push up on the float to stop the gas flow. this could be messy and dangerous. careful with the gas. its flammable. best solution is to remove the carb and soak it overnight in a parts cleaner like gunk. caution small parts inside. this happins every year on mine no matter what i do. seems like the orifice is so small it clogs easily. good luck

SOURCE: Toro Lawn mover 605 recycler

Your carburetor is definately dirty or it needs new gaskets, screen, and needle valve( carb. kit). Is this something that you think you might want to attempt? It really isn't that difficult. Can be done in about an hour. If so, let me know and I can give you a few tips.

SOURCE: toro recycler will run until primed gas is consumed.

The problem is that the gas that sat in the carb all winter glazed it over and gummed it up. Begin by going to any auto parts store, like an aiutozone, and getting a bottle of carb. cleaner. Seafoam is one I use. Add it to your gas, one ounce per gallon of gas. Also, pick up a can of engine starting spray.

Remove the air filter and spray the engine starting spray into the air intake. Pull start the engine and give it additional squirts of engine starting spray until it runs smoothly.

SOURCE: toro self propelled 22 inch recycler lawn mower start pull cord is "stuck"

Casey,

My son just bought a new Toro self propelled 22" recycler and has had problems on two different occasions. The mower just bogs down to a stop and when he tried to pull the starter cord, it was very VERY difficult to pull. At first I thought the engine had seized up for some reason (no oil?), but we found the problem.

First, disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug (to avoid the engine starting); tip the mower on its side and check very carefully the pulley and transmission belt. In his case, a piece of wood had gotten stuck between the belt and the pulley. Removing it fixed the problem (now he mows a little higher so as not to get so close to any debris). (We did have one further problem after that - the engine would not start - not even fire. After pulling and pulling, checking for gas, and checking that the air filter was cleean, we decided to check if the cylinder was flooded - we removed the spark plug, wiped and dried if off, and replaced it. It started right away.)

This belt 'n pulley arrangement isn't the best idea, if you ask me.

Good luck.

Toro recycler self propelled 6.5hp, 22" (gts)

Hi steve16092...
You may have MAJOR damage to your motor because of overfilling the oil.
Sometimes you can bend or break a piston rod when the engine is overfilled.
Meanwhile you can check a few other things.
Take your plug out and ground it against the head of the engine with the spark wire attached to it.
You should get a bright blue spark, if not then check your ignition module, it may be faulty.
If you have spark, then try putting a little bit of lighter fluid/or gasoline in the cylinder and reinstall the plug and try to crank it...if it cranks, then you may need to clean/rebuild your carburetor.

My Toro Personal Pace 22"

pull your spark plug and see if it will pull then, if so then it is hydro locked with fuel which can be caused y a bad fuel cap, not venting or a stuck open needle in carb causing gas to flood cylinder

Toro super recycler mower will not stay running, has fuel and oil and air filter was just replaced

Try replacing the fuel and spark plug. Gas may be bad. Get some fresh from the station not from the can sitting in the garage.
Drain the fuel system and put the fresh gas in.

It wont spark at all. No fire. Just put a new spark plug so that's not the issue. This lawnmower is only 1.5 years old. Thanks

Could be magneto bad, wire from magneto bad, ground on magneto bad, or the clearance between the flywheel and the magneto is rusted up if it was outside. Clean flywheel with sandpaper and set magneto gap using a match book flap.
