Re: need help formatting PLEASEE!!!!

This is Vikram Kumar Thumu from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue related to the Error message stating that Wrong Format. I would like to provide my suggestions on the issue.  I hope that this should work and will resolve the issue for  you.

If this is exact error message then try :

"CARD HAS WRONG FORMAT. Press OK to format card. "

Possible cause is : The memory card is formatted for a different device such as an MP3 player.

Solution : Reformat the memory card (remove the card from the camera if you do not want it to be reformatted).

I hope that this should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists then you can take help of HP Chat Support.

For your convienience, I'll provide the link for you.

I hit the Format button by mistake,And don't know where to find my pictures help?

Formatting the card wipes it clean and prepares it for use.
If you haven't done anything with the card since then, there's a possibility of recovering at least some of the pictures. Do a Google search for "format recovery software" and select a program appropriate for your computer.

I am trying to read my 4GB memory card from an Optex reader and it says I need to format it and then will not complete.

Hi s_atkins,

You don't have to format the memory card via your camera, a good idea would be to connect it to your computer via a card reader and then format it.

After you format it , you can insert the memory card into your camera and this should work fine.

Hope this helps ..:)Let me know in case you have any queries.

Have kodak easyshare c190 camer , inserting new sd card and get edit needs formating, try to format on the camera says same things format card or put a new different one in. So i even downloaded sd...

That can be the card or the cameras acting up. The card can be bad or just the wrong type size or speed and the camera can't handle it. They do go bad but usually they don't want to even format when they do. The card slot in the camera can be the problem (this is the serious problem)but isn't really that common to see.

If a different smaller card or any other cards work fine then the problem is just the card. Your camera is perfectly fine. You need to look at the card and the camera user manual and see if the card is the right type and so on. I have had problems with off brand cards and even run across faked good brands. If you can transfer files to and from the card using your computer the card is fine, and if other cards work it is definitely the wrong type then. If nothing works then you can suspect the camera but this is really uncommon to see. Usually someone buys a 4gb or bigger card but the camera can only handle say a 2gb. Or the 4gb is a high speed version or something slightly different.

If the problem is actually the camera then unfortunately they are not cost effective to repair unless you can get them repaired under warranty. Fortunately it is almost always a card issue.

My Nikon D80 shows an ERR, what should I do? FYI...I tried turning the camra on, removing the battery and pressing the shutter button for 30 seconds. That didn't work.

It's possible that you need to format the memory card. Formatting is found in the camera set up menu scroll down to "Format Memory Card" and follow on screen instructions.
Formatting should be done after each time you download pictures to your computer. Not delete, as delete does leave some data behind and eventually clogs the memory card so new data can not be placed on it. Another possibility is that the card somehow has become locked I'll include a diagram. Also a new card needs to be formatted to the cameratri3mast_228.jpg it is going to be used in.
