Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

RE: Epsom RX595 Photo All-in-One -Probem: Printer won't print. -When I try to print (via my Mac), the screen on the printer has a red line stating "error" on the top. -Below, it says, "press the ok button to replace ink cartridges." -When I press ok, the screen says to "replace ink cartridges." My problem: I don't know which ones to replace. When I press the "setup" button, no menu comes up to give the option of checking ink levels. I only want to print something now in black and white. I put in a new black cartridge and still get the above instructions.

    Thank you for your reply.

Does this mean I have to buy a complete set of new ink cartridges now?

  • carlawilson May 30, 2009

Thank you for the additional information. I found the first person who helped me was not clear enough for someone who is not that familiar with printers. I need simpler language. I also needed information to find out if my ink levels were low and I wasn't happy to be quickly diverted to a page where I could buy ink - for the same price as local stores.
The second reply was more comprehensive and useful. thank you, Carla Wilson

No you don't have to.

Take the cartridges out from the printer, let it be without the cartridges for a moment, even turn off and turn on your computer. then do the same to the printer.

place in the cartridges back.

see if the error is still there.

Press setup button on the printer
select maintenance from the menu and press ok
select nozzle check from the menu and ok again
press start

you should get a nozzle check pattern from the printer, it should have different color lines on it, few going vertically and others horizontally (they are not actually horizontal they are kind of )

check that you have all the colors and that the lines are not broken. see below

if the print is broken. or colors are missing, then first perform a print head cleaning before replacing anything.

b4dc03b.jpg

you may have to perform the cleaning 3 times to get good results.

now if something is missing, replace the cartridge that didn't produce the color.

if all printed fine then the issue is on the computer.

try to get rid of the installed drivers and software on your mac.
you may use this program to help you do that, do the following: reset the printing system, repair permissions and uninstall / delete the epson drivers.

when you are done restart the mac and use the cd that came with it or get them from here

ones you have installed everything back print a page it should work normally.

Dont use CIS or refills. The chips are designed to "self destruct" when the ink registers empty. Since a CIS is designed to never register empty, it usually works but if you let it run empty, or the printer decides its empty anyway, the chip gets that signal and then you run into this problem. If you want to save money, buy brand new compatible cartridges.

I have feint lines across photos and have done head clean. Epson Stylus photo R220.

Well, here's your problem: that's a six year-old printer. I used to have it and and 2007 I replaced it with an Epson Stylus Photo RX595 AIO because like the R220, the RX595 has the ability to print directly onto inkjet printable CD's/DVD's. Your printheads/nozzles are shot and all the cleaning in the world will not fix them and it's certainly won't be cost effective to have repaired when you can get a current model for less than the repair price. Mine went after two years. Honestly, it's amazing that this printer lasted as long as it has. Six years has to be some kind of record.
Here are the current CD/DVD printing models from Epson.

Epson RX595 prints "wet" on non epson paper

the reaction of the photo chemicals that are on the paper cannot be guaranteed by the printer manufacturer as they have no knowledge of its composition.

3rd party photo paper manufacturers have better compatibility results.

Epsom RX620 Poor quality photo prints

I have got round this problem by routing my pictures via Picasa 2. Printing direct is still a problem, but I think I can live with that for now.

Mac OS 10.5 Leopard

As per someone elses post here:
# Select Print from the File menu.

If you see the message The Epson Printer Driver dealing with CD printing is not installed, click OK.

# Click Tray, select Tray 2, then click OK.

Note: If Tray 2 is not selected, the CD design will print in the wrong position.

# Click Manual Print.

# Make sure Epson Stylus Photo R(your model) is selected.

# Under Paper, select the following settings:

* Source: Manual

* Size: A4

# Click Properties.

# Select CD/DVD or CD/DVD Premium Surface for the Media Type setting.

# Click OK, then click OK again to print.

Paper Selection on my Epsom R1800 & R800 using a MAC

Hmmm, I print from a Mac to an Epson Stylus Photo R1800 and a smaller HP inkjet one. What application are you trying to print from? And are we talking about the R1800?

New Epson RX595 won't print

Apparently the latest software doesn't work with Leopard 10.5.2. I uninstalled the Epson software and installed the earlier version [driver version 3.88] that come on the Installer CD with the printer. Printing now works.

Epsom R200 COPY INK DOESNT WORK

There is no solution, I have tried this myself, there are compatible inks for this product, you just got the wrong ones, However it may only be down to one of the inks, check the ink levels before removing, if all empty, then they are not compatible.

Printer stopped working

Check printer, is it ready/online ? Do a test via keypad of printer and see if printer is ok.

If printer is ok then check again cable that goes from it to PC

If printer is not working, check for error lights, display, paper, jams.

We need to know Model and Make of printer, what you are using to print, and how it's connected, to help you any further.
