Question about D-Link RangeBooster G WBR-2310 Wireless Router (WBR2310)
The signal going to my wireless router recycles. It's on for 3 or 4 minutes then it shuts off for 1 minute. My laptop says the signal is very low. Should I buy a new router or check with my internet provider? I have had this problem since the first week in March. My laptop is an IBM T30. I have had the laptop and router for about 3 years.
Howdy,
If you have been using this router/laptop for 3 years successfully and then all of a sudden it does not work, you may attempt to try an external USB wireless adapter. Does your T30 have 802.11b connectivity built in? It is not unusual for these to go out. Before you buy one check first to see if you can still access wirelessly at other hotspots? Or does the problem follow you around? If you can successfully connect at other hotspots then this is not the problem and it may very well be your router. Is there any way you can get a substitute rouer to test with before you purchace one? A friend maybe? It is probably one of these 2 issues. If you find your wireless is out on the laptop and you go to purchace a USB wireless adapter, go for a Linksys and make sure it is at least wireless "g" or "n" and not "b". And if you do not have enough USB ports then you may want the flat wireless card adapter that plugs in to the PCMCIA slot on the laptop. This can be Linksys also - I use this one (flat card) - "Wireless G Notebook adapter with SRX" Model Number WPC54GX. It is great and has speed boost. If your built in wireless on the laptop is bad, then any of these external adapters you choose to use will simply take over the wireless reception. Good Luck.
