Hope the cd is not scratched and shining good.

clean the cd-drive lens with a good lens cleaner(wet one) and try again.
you may need to clean it 3-4 times.

if it doesn't help then try it on different pc with Sony/Liteon cd/dvd drive.

I already wrote disc but how to overwrite a disc

On a CD-R, if you don't finalize or write protect the disk, can you overwrite a file?

Or in overwriting are you simply creating a second file of the same name in the TOC/directory and deleting the name, only, of the first file

You can add more data if there is space on the DVD+R, but you can't overwrite it.

You see, when a disc is burned, little microscopic ridges are put onto the disc. This is your data.

You cannot overwrite this data.

It's kind of like trying to use a permanent marker on the same spot of paper twice.

I had to restore my emachine to factory settings

Open "My Computer".
Insert a "data" CD, and hold the LEFT-SHIFT key down for a minute.
Watch the icon for the CD-drive change from the "standard" icon to something specific to the data CD.
Right-mouse-click on the CD's icon, and choose "Explore",
to open Windows Explorer to view the "data" files on the CD-disk.

RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.
