Question about Akai LCT3701AD 37 in. LCD Television
I disconnected the power cord from the tv and the wall, waited 15 minutes and reconnected. Same problem, any help resolving this would be really appreciated... light flashes red but will not turn on will never turn on with standby - must use power switch on back to turn off - then back on after several minutes. Sometines it can be over an hour before a solid red light appears and then i can turn on with remote. this unit is not more than a year old.
Actually the most likely not heat. At least heat is not likely what is causing the current issue your describing. The power supply in these and for that matter most AKAI televisions were very poorly manufactured. But the symptoms you are describing sound more like a common capacitor issue that the AKAI brand TV's are known for. Basically several of the capacitors on the secondary side of the board become bad and can bulge or leak and sometimes, they do not even show signs of going bad but still are not performing up to spec which is what causes the problem you are discribing. In some cases you may have other components tht have failed also but about 80-90% of the time it is due to bad capacitors around the board. There are several options online for repairing your power supply and some repair shops will work on them altough most will just want you to buy a new power supply. I repair LCD power supplies on the side and once repaired with better quality capacitors you should be able to get several more years out of your LCD.

Hi I am Vortash this sounds like an component heating problem that is , the component gets hot the set goes into standby no further function is possible .It may be on the power supply or it could be on the remote circuit but whatever it is this will need an engineer to do voltage readings on the board with the aid of a circuit diagram to determine the area of fault .. sorry not to able to give you better news but it looks like you need a service department is the unit still covered by Guarantee most are two years now ?.. regards Vortash

This is a common problem withAKAI TV's, the 3 capicitors on the power supply are the most common culprits.
