Subwoofer stops working after about an hour's use. Authorized repair technician could find nothing wrong.

Our JBL/JRX118/SP subwoofer stops working after about an hour. We just had it at an authorized repair center that could find nothing wrong with it after testing it and taking it completely apart. Any ideas?

In case of a transistor which is faulty, could short the power supply in circuitry, and this happens after the transistor gets heated up. So you might wanna inspect the transistors on board to replace if found faulty.

When I turn up level on subwoofer it makes loud humming noise. JBL

Try the following steps to stop subwoofer hum.
  1. If the subwoofer is plugged into its own outlet, plug the subwoofer's power cord into an outlet shared by the other components. Use an extension cord if necessary.
  2. If the hum persists, and your system includes a cable TV, disconnect the cable line. If the hum stops, install an isolation transformer on the cable.
  3. If the hum persists, disconnect the remaining component cables one at a time until the hum stops. Install a coaxial isolation transformer on that cable.
  4. If the hum persists, install a line-level ground loop isolator on the subwoofer's line-level feed cable. This usually solves most hum problems.
  5. If nothing helps, disconnect all the audio cables from the subwoofer. Leave the subwoofer plugged in and switched on. If the subwoofer hums, it points to a defective unit. Contact the company's customer service to technical support.

The subwoofer stops working and makes a loud flat sound that can only be stopped by unplugging it. I replaced the subwoofer with another one in the house so it's not a receiver or wire connection...

We have a jvc home theater surround sound system and the subwoofer just stopped working. the model number for the sub is sp-pwc30 and we want to just replace the subwoofer any ideas how to get one?

Depending of the type of Subwoofer that required your system.

A) Amplified Subwoofer. (With 110volts A.C. cord attached to the sub)
The subwoofer electronics circuit needs repair or change.
You will find a compatible subwoofer for this type of subwoofer in audio appliance stores.

B)Not amplified Subwoofer (No 110volts A.C. cord attached to the sub)

Bring your sound system to a technician to have the soldering remaked to the devices bolted on the main heatsink.
And have the Subwoofer checked too.

This type of subwoofer can mostly be buy in kit with the satellites speakers.
And need to match thee impedance of the output of your system.

Search for ( 4 ohm or 6 ohm 8 ohm ) near the Sub outlet behind your system.
